    Awesome gaming moments...

We had a thread on this a long while ago, but I had an excellent one last night which would appeal to the... ahem..'older' gamers here.

In GTA:Vice City, I'm driving along the seafront in my silver Cheetah, its dusk and then on the radio comes 'Crockett's Theme' by Jan Hammer... OMG! I'm transported back to 1987 when pastel coloured sports jacket over white t-shirst was the coolest thing out and you watched Miami Vice religiously to be able to yack all about it at school the next day.

It was all I could do to not get into the loft and dig out the suitcase full of clothes in different shades of lilac and yellow...

    What a game....!

The first car i got into in GTA:Vice City and had only been playing for about 5 minutes (on Christmas day) and Billie Jean came booming out. I was blown away and there was no way i was going to put that game down for at least another month!

Other great moments for me are...

Tomb Raider Original when the T-Rex pops round the corner from behind the dark background, my jaw hit the floor and was shocked for the rest of the day!

And who could forget pretty much the whole of Half-Life with some of them fantastic moments.

First time you do a lap in LFS drifting without hitting anything.

Doing a mission on something like IL2 online, and everyone comes home.

Hearing the cries of many, many people at a LAN when I managed to fly the Apache in DC 0.1 and they got caught on the business end time after time.

yeah, bringing a nasty, ill-flying shot to bits piece of junk home and getting it back on the deck in one piece, smoking and leaking fuel everywhere after flying a mission in IL2 has to be the best.... That's partly why I enjoy flying Heinkels and TB3s so much....

(the other parts just pure laziness - trim em up, and go and have a cup of tea )

First EVER multiplayer game I had - Warcraft 2 on the original Wireplay when it was owned by BT. It the sudden realisation that you are playing someone else FAR away. Awesome.

Mortal Kombat, Megadrive - Pulling someone's head off with the spinal cord attached? Perfect for a little primary school kid Quality game.

Final Fantasy 7 - Almost all of it! So well told and an excellent stort with so much depth to the game.

Doom II - That big mad pink, horned mofo runnnig around the corner at you for the first time. Agghhh! The sound had me awake at night for days!

Finishing Millenium 2.0 on the Atari ST (gotta love ruling the solar system)
Doom- the sound on that game is just too scary
Quake 2- the first game I played on a LAN, opened a whole new world of gaming for me.
Unreal Tournament- the first time I played Facing Worlds CTF, it was just so much better than any FPS before it

    Getting the rocket in Tetris.
However, most are all racing relating; various manoevures and shuffles with the people I race with online.

And one LAN B1942 session in which it was 2 on 2, plus AI, and one central point in a map changed possession 20, 30 times for the duration of the match, no team managing to keep control of it. Awesome stuff.

    Elite on the C64.

Populous 2 on the Amiga (my first multiplayer game over a serial cable).

Dungeon Master on the Amiga when you first get attacked by the mummy.

The T-Rex moment in Tomb Raider. I think I woke up all the neighbours screaming.

The day I discovered CTF in Quake2.

Nothing beats that for fear factor, my brother was watching and he did 'actually' fall off his chair!
