Do you think the UK version will cost more or less than the imports? (I'm guessing more , if so hopefully I can find a cheap import)

Yes, the only thing that affects imports is the movies, so get it from Japan, it works with the UK ones then

You can buy movies to watch on the PSP.

You know there is region codes? Well Japan and the UK have the same Region code. The UK and US don't (for example).

Another example is, you can't use a ntsc(USA) Playstation 2 game on a PAL(UK) system.
