I know, I know, its a bit too early to tell anything, but judging from the other consoles, how far would it be? If it's like 3 months then I might wait. But if the drop is likely to be £60 I wouldn't bother. What's the pattern if anyone knows?
I wouldnt expect to see much of a price drop until the PS3 release, assuming it sells well at the current price point that is.

Mmy thinking too.
If the XBox 360 is good & Sony are a year behind why drop prices ...?
It seems that MS want's to drop the price one year after its initial release, then they will only drop the price once a year. They won't be following the Xbox price drop structure. With PS3 so far away from release MS have no need to panic with price drops.
i'd have thought it will nicely come in a month or so before ps3 release, once the ps3 price has been announced. they've no reason to drop it any earlier as it has no competitors at all

Not to mention it's a very reasonable price to begin with.
Are new consoles always this cheap?
I was always thinking I'd have to wait months on end to be able to afford the X360, assuming it'd be at least £399.
When I heard the pricing, I was first in line to order. hehe.
New consoles have tended to be around £500 mark when they first hit our shores. If you can get hold of one that is.
All to often consoles launch and they only way to easily get hold of one in those critical first few weeks is through some extornationate prices on eBay/local dealers.
If MS manage to have enough stock available at launch, at the current price, then that will be a great achievement.

In hindsight do you think it was worth it?Originally Posted by 5lab

You are always going to have a better deal later.. but then you're missing out on play time too
Same for most things in the world really. MS have tried to stave off that by pre-announcing yearly price cuts, which is great because it gives people a bit of stability. Whether they stick to that or not is another thing, but if Sony play by the same thing then they can effectively control the market co-operatively.

compare it to pc parts - in 6 months a £300 graphics card will be worth £150. in 2 years it'll be worth nothing. my ps2 is 5 years old and still worth ~£80ish.. i know you loose the initial hit, but its not that much money in real terms..
