bargain. I thought it'd be at least £299 for the base pack.

"The key technical specifications of the Xbox 360 console are unlikely to make much sense to any but the most technical. But if a custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical 3.2GHz cores, a 500MHz custom ATI Graphics Processor with 10MB of embedded DRAM and unified memory architecture of 512MB GDDR3 RAM and 700MHz DDR doesn’t mean anything to you just consider this: with specs like that the Xbox 360 is already more powerful than a £2,000+ state-of-the art PC."

How do they do that and make a profit ?

Makes you wonder how much nvidia and ATI make on their graphics cards.

these prices are just what they should be. no cheaper.

ms will make a LOT of money on each game sold, remember ati/nvidia make none - also there will probably be tens of millions of xbox360s sold, compared to what - 50,000 of each particular graphics card? basically the comparable RnD cost is virtually 0

Will who "honour" the price? They're Microsoft official prices announced earlier this week...

From what I read a few weeks ago, the consoles alone cost about £300 to manufacturer so they actually make a loss on them but prices will drop as demand rockets, and they make huge amounts of profit on the games and accessories to make up for the loss on the console anyway

Consoles are usually sold at a lost, they recoup their money and make profit via games

i think only nintendo is the only one that tends to make a profit via consoles but whether thats true i am not sure.

Xbox 360 Live tag : derthbolls (with an o )

There has been no confirmed release date set. The shops are just guessing at the moment.

That is cheaper than I thought it was going to come out for. I was expecting £300 because the playstation 1 & 2 came out at £300.
They must be starting low to set the bar for the playstation 3.

The release date is currently formally "Before Christmas", since the realistic latest date to release before christmas is the last week of November many retailers are saying 28th.

Many that I have spoken to are expecting it Mid November but cannot confirm.
