UT 2004 demo

I'm just worried they're gonna end up like EA and bring out a new game every year with a few tweaks that shoulda really been patches or an add-on disk. I've bought and played Unreal, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, UT2k3... this has gotta be something pretty good to get me to fork out MORE dosh for what is essentially the same game.

I have a few reservations...

So the maps are updated to play better. Why couldn't they have got that right with UT2k3?

The graphics are updated... and we can all afford a new spanky DX9 card and a P4 3 gig to take advantage of that can we?

There's a new game mode... ONE? One new game mode? £34.99 for the same as I already have with ONE new game mode????

It's got vehicles in it... and that demanded such a re-writing of the code that it couldn't have been an add-on disk for half the price?

Sorry to be so negative, but I can't help but think that this 'new' game is a cynical cash in. Nothing I've seen so far convinces me that this game is worth buying. It's just re-hashing what has gone before.

Nope, saving me pennies for HL2.

Its *not* the same game. Thats the major problem that epic is going to convince people about. All the die hard followers already know this, but anyone else wont.

Because they were lazy. The maps in UT2K3 were a real disappointment. The game was basically taken from the console version of UC from the xbox, and it shows.

The graphics engine has been re-written in certain areas, and apparently its runs a LOT better on older hardware. There is even software render support should people need it.
Its still based on DX8, not 9. You wont need to upgrade for this game.

Nope, 2 new game types.
Onslaught and Assault.
The game has 95 maps, iirc 40 of these are totally new.
New announcers.
New mutators.
New interface (this really kicks ass).
New characters.. ect...

UT2K3 already has the code for vehicles. Ive made maps with them in, so that i know. But the code wasn't that good, and the game only shipped with a demo vehicle.

I was the same mate, its only because I'm a die hard follower i know what the game will, and wont have.
They have moved away from the WWF style crap they had in UT2K3, and more back into the unreal universe.
Add the discount in for UT2K3 owners, and its really not going to be that expensive.

Well I wouldn't hold your breath. Forget the 12-Dec UK street date, UT2004 isn't going to be released till February at the earliest.

Hmmm past experience is a great teller of the future. IF they are trying to persuade us ut2k4 is more then an addon that demo is the wrong way to go about it. Looks the same sounds the same, i may not be a hard core ut follower but then neither are most of ut2k4's potential buyers.

I've got a bit of 'insider knowledge' which is reliable. I know no one has to believe me but I have no reason to make it up. It could be wrong but personally I'm convinced there will be no release this year and the date I've heard is Feb ‘04

Suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

Presume you send them your CD key for UT2003, they check it's legit and send a cheque?

It should be a rebate method.
AFAIK you will have to send somthing off like the front of the manual, and they will send you somthing like a cheque.
Its not all set in stone yet, but its happening (check offical UT2003 forums)

well i just hope thay support this game with anti cheat as thay havent with 2k3 /which is what i find is killing the game for most players
its amazeing whats out there what these peeps will try to use
and i would of thought epic would stand in and at least help in this situation
tcc is great but its not the best and wormbo has worked hard to try and save the game but thats just not enuff which is a shame
time will tell
