Guaranteed an X360 on launch! Go me!

Recieved a phonecall from GameStation this morning asking if I was still on for the Xbox 360 I preordered a couple of months back - of course I was.

"Good stuff, you we're 7th on the list so you can get one of the ten we will have at midnight for the launch, come down today to pick up your invite/slip, but bring your reciept".

Did so, got it. I rule.

I'm waiting till they start shipping with HD-DVD drives before I get one. The launch titles don't appeal to me either now that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been delayed.

Id say thats being a bit optimistic too !

Fair play to them for opening at midnight for 10 customers though ! Thats going to cost them more than they will make back off the sales !

I know they were only giving the invite slips to people buying the full £279 system, so thats £2790, then maybe they'll make another £1000 or so in games/accessories?

I fail to see how the initial demand can realistically exhaust supplies until January - Sony said exactly the same thing about the Slim PS2. They know months in advance when the consoles will be needed, to have such poor supply mechanisms is inexcusable and probably done on purpose to keep interest high.

They know months in advance when the consoles will be needed, to have such poor supply mechanisms is inexcusable and probably done on purpose to keep interest high.

Its generally the manufacturing of the custom chips that causes a problem, fab processes take time to bed down and start producing good yields. The same is true for the x360 with the new IBM chip to power them not producing good enough yeilds.

But its not just that it is the modified ATI hardware to power the x360 too.

Its a very difficult job to get manufacturing without issues, i've seen it at a small scale, with last minute changes and having to reprogram units when they come back in from site etc.

Pre-ordered mine from Dixons a while back.

Emailed them wondering if I'll get a pre-xmas delivery and they replied confirming I will.

If it comes a few days after launch day I'm not bothered, as long as I got the thing to play over crimbo!
