So shooting up a public place to 'comedy' music is OK, for an advert targetted at children, but two adults in a mature relationship shouldn't be part of an adult TV program pre-watershed? I really hope you weren't suggesting that because both adults were of the same sex they should be portrayed differently in the media than adults in a heterosexual relationship.

In what way is it an advert targetted at children? demographic studies for xbox and ps place them firmly in the 18-30 bracket.

THe point being, that theres plenty of actual shooting on tv before the watershed (real and cartoon), and since this is blatantly a comedy piece whats the problem?

Because it's batantly a comedy piece. Which in the current climate is poor taste. My apologies for assuming that consoles were for children.

The current climate being a world where children walk into public places and shoot random strangers, and where blame has been cast on videogames for 'corrupting children'. I wonder why.

I'll say again, it shows no violence, No gore, no blood, nothing but light hearted fun. Creating a stigma about this type of thing makes the subject taboo and sweeping it under the carpet doesn't help.

The simple fact is that 99.99% of normal human beings can watch that and not want to go and buy a gun and go into a place to re-enact it.

Just like watching a lesbian kiss will not want to make all women want to become lesbians. I don't see how it is okay to make one acceptable and the other not.

The quicker we get conclusive research that proves that people who go out and kill people do it because they have something fundementally wrong with their brains and not under the influence of animated computer games, rap music, film violence etc etc the better.

I think the fact that kids have access to guns says more about the farcical state of gun monitoring in the us than anything else (i cant recall an instance of a kid shooting random people in a public place in the uk).

Ill admit fps etc proably do have an influence on kids, but i cant find one in my collection that has an age rating of less than 15 (obviously excluding ones made before the rating system was enforced)

THe onus isnt on videogame manufacturers not to make games, but on parents to restrict the access to unsuitable material. Theres no reason why i shouldnt be able to play quake just because barry and barrieta cant keep their kids under proper supervision.

More to the point i've had more horribly violent dreams than any computer game i've ever played.... but i'm kinda messed up.

The episode of "Spaced" were they do this was season two, and shown at 9pm on ch4 iirc. So after the watershead.... why couldn't this advert of been?

I didn't say that advert would effect people. I said that that advert would remind people that children do such things, and that many people do believe videogames are a major cause. And I don't think thats very funny.

That conclusive research isn't going to happen. The problem is that computer games, music and TV are part of what makes people's brains how they are, right or wrong. Modern thinking on child development has gone way beyond the nature/nurture debate. The sick twisted children (and adults) who do such things are a product of both genetics and society, and videogames are a part of our modern society. But parental abuse and a million other things would also contribute to a childs development.

Edit: Gun control is a huge other issue, but I did read about two 10 year old children abducting and murdering a two year old. I believe this was blamed on videotapes (quietly ignoring both kids were abused). Of course, if we are heading in this direction, there's also Mary Bell.

This advert is genius. Last year I was looking at site like Compfused etc with all the funnny vids and came across a little gem of a video just like this. There's a bunch of guys and gals in a school gym in America doing exactly the same. Its superbly funny Any know which vid I mean? I cannot find it anywhere and compfused seems to have died a death?

Why is it that Xbox adverts get ban? It's stupid.. remember the baby one? That was much worse than that advert imo, and even that advert wasn't bad!

I know the one you mean, but that one had lots of gore in it too... at least with this ad it's obviously just people being big kids... In fact, perhaps thats the point of the advert?

Nah, the point of the ad is to make us think about the advert and what its an advert for... so in that respect its been a resounding success.

Personally I don't want to see 2 gay people kissing on TV.
