Update.
Phoned MS again today, got the usual can i take your number and get back to you. This time i replyed that i have been waiting since friday for someone to call me back. She seemed a little surprised and went to have a chat with her superviser. Comes back and passes me onto her superviser and then starts taking all my details. So i'm now in the system waiting for a courier to deliver an empty box. They are sending me a brand new console as soon as they recieved the old one.
What surprised me is i'm only sending the console & Hdd, i'm to keep the PSU and everthing else. So i wonder what E74 error code actually means. Its defo not an overheating PSU then.Originally Posted by unreal
Overheating PSUs will eventually blow up, when my lappies when haywire I was also told to keep the PSU and battery. I think its becauseOriginally Posted by beanbandit
1 they don't wanna pay extra for the extra weight to be transferred,
2 They will probably use a pre set up PSU for testing, and would rather not have extra cables and PSUs laying around
Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
awww thats really unlucky
Good that Microsoft are dealing with this themselves, alot of companies just say "take it back to where you brought it" which will be really pointless since nowhere would be able to replace.
As Workahloic says its only the Console & HDD they would care about, the PSU and extra crap is just extra weight that it prob cheaper to remake.
My 360 is still going strong.

Update.
I've just recieved my empty box, so the 360 is all ready to be picked up by DHL. Hopefully i should have the replacement by Friday. Fingers crossed.
According to the US users that have had errors on the 360 they are being advised that it takes around 7 - 10 days from sending there xbox back to getting a replacement.
I'd have thought that you would want to keep the HDD??
Otherwise you loose all ya saves etc.
sorry to hear that , I know how much you look forward to a new console. Get Mr flitt to redesign it

He could do a better designed PSU thats for sureOriginally Posted by Moby-Dick
I was told to send the Hdd back. As it is it wasn't used for that long, i only got up to the first boss in Kameo and one race in PGR3 so won't take me long to be back where i was.Originally Posted by CocoPops
Most people are getting 4 (working)day turn-around on their replacements. This is taken from when the empty box is dispatched to when the new unit arrives. For some reason my box was delayed as MS sent it out on monday and it only arrived today. So i'm going to be a little edgy on Friday.Originally Posted by Carlh

It is aking a lot for a mass produced new technology item not to have a small percentage of failures. The numbers so far are not extraordinary.
Update.
Woohoo my replacement has just turned up. Its a brand new console, serial No.s are different, so sometime tonight i will be finally playing some games on it. Although i'm a little nervous of powering it up. Everything will be crossed when i hit the power button.
Just to confirm i only sent the console + Hdd back and thats all that was returned. So the error code E74 does not indicate an overheating PSU more of a overheating console imo.
Good luck mate - all the best and I sincerely hope that your new one is great you lucky bugger
