    Battlefield 2 Loading Issue

First of all sorry if this is the wrong place.... but i wasent realy sure where else to post it

Hi Ya'll, I have had BF2 for a long time, since it was released to start with it loaded fine.... but it kept crashing continualy to desktop and finaly i get that sorted out but it started taking 20 Mins to load a level, i updated punkbuster the other day and the server loaded in 4 mins but then after that it takes 15 Mins...

I can load onto an empty server in about 4mins, but if its fullish or above about 2 people it takes 15Mins or so to load, i get the actualy loading done in about 4 mins, but once it gets to "Loading Compleat. Verifying Client Data" it just sits there for ever.... can have a nap inbetween loading .

Its getting very anoying loading into a server for 5 mins of play then the next map loading, and playing alone on empty servers is no fun!.

    My Spec i as follows:

    AMD Athlon 2500+ M @ 2.4Ghz
1GB PC3200 Ram @333Mhz (Its Cosair But Its Unstable Above 333Mhz)
    ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB Core:432Mhz Mem:546Mhz
    120GB HDDx 2 7200RPM 8MB Catch
    Abit NF7-s V2.0 Mobo
    Audigy 2 Sound Card

    And the Usual

A friend of mine loads much faster in about 1 min and they have a lower spec.... i have tried underclocking, i have tried reinstalling, i have tried so much and nothing seems to help, i realy want to play this game so please..... somebody help me!

    Jcb33 .

    Abit NF7-S V2.0 || XP1700 @ 2.43ghz (1.825V) 211FSB || 2 * 512MB twinmos @ 422Mhz (7-3-2-2)

The thing that helps bf2 loading times the most is more ram. 2gb is really needed for this game.

With 2gb mine loads in 30secs before it was taking forever.

I'd agree with that. I also found that it was a bit laggy with 1GB but 2GB made it a hell of a lot better.

You might also find your processor is causing you some problems. Mind you, my old XP3200+ wasn't too bad with it.

for comparison my system (xp2400+, 1Gb pc2100, 9800pro 128Mb) loads BF2 levels @1280x960 medium in about 1-2 minutes. I reckon it's something software-related. Check all your motherboard and graphics drivers are working properly, defrag your drive(s), re-create your BF2 config files for the resolution you play in. Sorry, can't think of anything else really...

likewise. more ram would decrease the loading speeds but the cost is not worth it as I'm going to replace my whole system in a few months!

Friend has 1GB takes them 2Mins to load..... there is no logiacal reason for my PC to take 15-20Mins to load a server map

It clearly isnt a hardware issue if its only just started happening. Are you patched to the newest version? Have you updated punkbuster, have you got any mods installed?

I had similar prblem to OP - initial server connection taking soooooo long I would get disconnected.

Completely re-installed BF2 & SF (takes foooking ages coz of all the patches !!!!!!) & connection is now much faster.
Still takes a while loading maps on 512Mb RAM but fine once ingame. It's the only game I have a problem with & don't play that much so not gonna bother upgrading RAM till I do everything next year......

    cheers JonMaC

I have two nearly identical pc's at home. Both P4 2.6's but one has 1gig ram and the other 512.

The one with 512 loads much faster than the other one but I think that might be down to the fact that the one with a gig has a 6800gt on it so I run it at higher res with a lot more features turned on so I guess it has to load more textures etc. while the 512mb one is got everything set on low with an ati 9700 and it loads pretty fast.

BF2 seems to be pretty random as far as load times takes, Eagle one of the guys I play with (ooo err...) has a lesser spec than me but loads faster, go figure...

If I could b arsed then I might go thru the config on mine and change the gfx settings, test, change the settings again and test again as I reckon its more to do with the caching of textures etc cos since I changed my gfx settings down a bit the games much smoother and seems to load faster too...
