I read someone as you said, someone became a jedi, but I also read you can loose this position , which makes it even more special. Btw Cesium you are planning of getting subscription for how long? Are there many people playing this game. Finally, what are vehicles like in the game?

yes i've read it is very easy to loose this position. obviously no one ,apart from that lucky dude, knows how hard it is , but they hinted on the website that you go up against dark jedi's/sith's

well i'll probably do it 1 month at a time (£10) , but if i really really like it i might go for a few months at a time.

yes there are hundreds of thousands of people playing this game. not sure of the exact amount, but its pretty damn big. and with the UK realease now its goona get a lot bigger.

as i said earlier there isnt any flight vehicles as yet until the expansion pack next year. not sure about land vehicles tbh. nuthin about them on the site. will ask a mate of mine who got it yesterday thou. i should get it mid week will tell u more if u want when i get it.

Ooo i thought you meant a Jedi as in Jedi Knight. Not a frikkin Padawan. That's like just above bottom end of the spectrum!

But you said you cant do that till they release the new pack next year?!? Im not gonna consider playing till they release that.

    edit:

The staggered release schedule of the space component of the Star Wars Galaxies series will benefit players because they will have time to establish their characters and explore different elements of the core game before we add the space layer," says Rich Vogel, director of development at Sony Online Entertainment's Austin studio. "Once the space component becomes available, players who have been with us since the beginning will be ready to buy their own starships and launch into this new arena."
    Oh

I get bored too easy for a game like this.

From what I have read of this tread so far I am very tempted to get this game. Been looking for something now for a while to get into.

How much is it a month?

Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean

Jedi - After 'finding the right path' and completing many professions you eventually (EVENTUALLY) open a 'force sensitive slot'. This is a new character slot alongside your original character (you can play both, but obviously not at the same time). This 'force sensitive' character has the chance to become a Jedi, starting at the lowest rank and working up to Jedi Master. It ain't that easy though!!

Bear in ming the whole empire is after your rear end, and you can bet a number of the other players would love to have bragging rights for taking down a Jedi.

Oh, and one other thing - whilst you can clone normal players so they effectually live forever - force sensitives can't. That's how they limit the number of Jedi. There are no numerical limits on them, bu they suffer from 'perma-death'. Once dead, their dead, no bringing them back!

Now, they do allow for about three deaths due to server errors and slow-down etc, but once they've gone, you're gone. And you have to unlock another character before you can think about becoming a Jedi again.

This isn't something that most players are going to pursue or achieve. So unless you're happy just playing a non-Jedi character, or can spend inordinate amounts of time playing - maybe think again before getting this game.

    Oh, one other thing though!

If anyone is skillful/lucky enough to not only become a Jedi but progress to 'Jedi Master', they need not fear 'perma-death. Any Jedi Master player who dies does not get deleted but instead becomes a 'blue glowy' (Jedi Apparition - as seen at the end of Star Wars!). What exactly you do when you're a 'blue glowy' I have no idea!

How does the server system work? Is it that there are only official servers, and each server is a different planet?

I sold my US import version to a friend who now tends to end up going to bed at 4AM in the morning.

H'ed played Never winter nights before, but not a full on mmorpg... so I'm fealing tad guilty at the mo

There is no way I'ed get into another mmorpg lightly. Thats why I left my SWG untouched after buying it. I'm surprised actually - I thought it'ed be like a recovering alcoholic leaving a bottle of Jack Daniels on the kitchen table for 2 months, but it didnt tempt me

BUT SWG isn't anything new its blooming Everquest with Star wars characters, it looked complete pants to me. Everquest has never taken my fancy and i have to say this doesn't either.

If it was a new engine with some thought behind it i'd say yer do it, but its just sony going ooo we could make swg if we just revamp the characters from eq.

    Avoid it imo

Its not like a counterstike 'server' with a limit of 32 or whatever peeps at a time.

MMORPG's have different servers [Ultima online called them 'shards'] usually catering for 1000-2000 players at a time.

The other servers are generally identical, but sometimes will run slightly different Plaver vs Player rules etc. Often, if a game increases in popularity the company will bring out a new server. It will start with a fresh economy and all players will start off at level 1 again. Often it is better for a new player to look to start off on the newer servers, as not every man and his dog have a 6 month 'head start'. The economies also tend to be of more use to a lower level player with more atction for low level items.

Finally, certain servers will pick up foreign contigents and have either lots of Jap/Korean/German or French etc players and get a name for being that countries server - though they will still tend to be outnumbered by americans on all servers.
