Got the game today, been playing for a couple hours and just arrived at Jeoffery, wow! this game rocks, great lighting.
Edit: still getting used to the play, big change from the Nexus core hmm should I go through the gates, join a guild, find out what this root is, do some trading, explore or read the manual? lol

How the hell do I close that Oblivion gate? I thought bugger this I'll go follow the red arrows. So I borrowed the brothers horse and went for a pony trek. I turned up at thecity of Kavtch sp? The general dood tells me I have to close the gate so Martin can come out, how do I close it plssssss its driving me nuts![/QUOTE]

You need to go into the gate to close it.

Go through the gate and then follow the red arrow, make sure you have the correct mission activated.

Quick tip - don't forget to use your warp travel, save travelling for miles

    Welcome to the Elder Scrolls

The correct answer is 'what would your character do next?' The Elder Scrolls games are all the most fun if you have a character concept and literally go about doing what they'd do - that's what the games been designed for and there's a surprising amount of freedom to just go and do that.

Asuming you want to follow the main quest, just head towards the red arrow on your compass and it'll take you to the next prorgression point. As you pick up rumours and overhear things you may get extra quests which you can then toggle as the active quest to set the red parker pointing for the places relevent to that quest.

But you don't have to follow the main quest at all - you can get back to it at anypoint - feel free to just wander around and pick up other goals and quests as you come accross them

Yeah me too - it's a bit too 'auto-balancing' for it's own good if you ask me, but then loads of people complained about morrowind being to easy if you happened to stumble accross something good early on.

Definately a big change from Morrowind, but also a more solid game. Still good though!

I know what you mean about it being harder than morrowind, having said that i've found that spell casting is very effective and looks really cool too, so if i can, i kill things with magic then secondary with a sword, think i'm getting quite good now. I prefer this levelling system, morrowind was too easy, you got to a certain point and you were godlike. Anyway i'm finding the game extremely enjoyable, asside from the numerous crashes i had this afternoon, nearly had a heart attack when it would not launch the game, but a restart of my machine sorted that. Thats the only letdown really, the game is a bit buggy, i guess we're paying to be beta testers

Just hit level 2 character and I'm finding it a fair difficulty so far. Ive joined the fighters guild, killed some mountain lions in a basement and just helped the merchant in Anvil by killing the burglers, which actually took me a few goes, it was all about stricking a good balence between chaos magic, blocking and hard steel. For me, not too easy not too hard so far, a challenge that will keep me occupied for some time to come me thinks. Can't wait for the online addon pack

I feel a bit naughty, as providing I can get away with it I'll steal the odd peices of armour or weapons etc, even if it is off my own guild leader lol

Now to save for some shield training, I think thats going to come in handy

Heh, I ordered mine from Play.com on Thursday evening and it arrived on Monday

Although I can't actually play the game because... !
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

i was having odd crashes yesterday, and for some reason it errors when i leave the game or alt-tab in and out of it too much. I have seen quite a few bugs in it but nothing to put me off. I've managed to complete the mages guild now and i'm just wandering about deciding what to do next, maybe some thieves guild quests I think i've played it so much i'm getting headaches when i look at my monitor for too long though

    *******MIGHT INCLUDE SPOILERS*******

    Couple of tips,

Steal all of the shop keepers keys within the shopping area of the Imperial City. It's easier to steal things from shops and for later missions etc. If your having trouble you can use the save exploit. Just wait till about 8pm when everyone shuts up shop, then follow them round the streets in sneak mode. Quicksave behind them, and pick pocket. If you fail reload and try again Just helps if your a noob and don't want to wait.

Road to the north east of Leyawiin(as you look at map it's on the right)..... Follow it to the Nocturnal Shrine, only if you are Lvl10 or above. Once there complete the quest for an extremely handy tool. *******unbreakable picklock******

If you ever become unstuck in a Dungeon with water and you have enemies on your tail but no health potions weapons etc to do the job. Get the enemies to follow you underwater. They end up drowing extremely fats!! This is handy if you have the underwater ring in your possession!

Pick up all Ninroot possible whenever you see it, trust me!

If you want to train in the arts of a Scouer, make sure you custom build your character with the invisibility for 60secs star sign. I've stolen things of Mages etc, extremely tough ones while invisible that otherwise I would have to fight in order to claim or run to the town gaurds to fight
