Gothic 3 gone gold in Europe

The gold master of Gothic 3 has been completed and delivered to the production facility. Developer Piranha Bytes, Publisher JoWooD Productions and Co-Publisher Deep Silver will be delighted to release the game on the 13th of October, on schedule.

Never played the Gothic series, anyone played it here? If so is it worth a look?

They are RPG's kind of like an early test run of oblivion witha 3rd person POV. They use a point system for leveling. I think Gothic one was slightly better than 2 but both were pretty good. Didnt realise there was a 3rd but might need to give RPG's a rest after Oblivion

Heh the elderscrolls pre-date the gothic series by some way.

They are fantastic games - much darker in feel than a lot of RPGs.

Gothic started it off and was immediately praised for it's beautiful game world (at the time) though it has fairly small areas. The thing most people liked about it was the NPC interactions and consequences of actions - the NPCs made the world feel much more alive with proper scheduling etc. However the control system really sucked and some people (most NAs) found it to be a bit naughty in places.

I didn't really play much gothic 2 - bigger world and slightly better graphics, but still the same kind of more gritty fantasty feel, and poor controls.

Number 3 is looking the best yet - the graphics are a major step forwards, and it seems they might have finally sorted some of the control issues out as well.

I played a bit of Gothic 2 and didn't really get far. I picked it up cheap last year, and of course the graphics aren't up to 2005 standards. But my mistake was that I looked at a walkthrough while playing and got put-off by the scripting (in order to get certain quests etc you have to do things in a certain way). Still, I admit that I didn't really give it a proper go and will probably pick up Gothic 3.

Thats why i said oblivion i was comparing its graphical look really but didnt put that point across very well. Quite scary to think Daggerfall is 10 years old and Arena even older

I've heard about this game and I think I'll probably give it a look when it's out. Not played the other Gothic games so I'm not sure what to expect.

Check out the demos of 1 and 2 first then - I guess there will be a demo of 3 as well at some point.
