Wii - Could it be the best console name to date?

When we first heard it, it was hard to believe. Surely not. Wii?!
What kind of a name is that? It originally just made no sense, why, why would anyone call it Wii?
At least Revolution sounded...normal.

The console itself isn't even out yet but the name has grown on me quicker than one can say Wii

I'm now starting to think if it's the most ingenius console name of all time.
Sure we've had some good names in the past, but were they all becoming too big and too macho?
Playstation, XBOX, Genesis, Saturn, Playstation 2/3, XBOX 360.
They're all ok, but suddenly they all sound a little mundane?

On the other hand you have Wii.

Just rolls off your tongue.

Let alone playing it, talking about it is going to be fun in it's own right.

Never mind about the name, I think it's going to be the best next-gen console full stop. I've not really touched my 360 in the year I've had it, but am really looking forward to the Wii, and am definately getting one on launch. The new video that was released has really sold me on it.

in my opinion Xbox just purley go for performance and visual good/realistic graphics but lack in longitivity of gameplay. nintendo for as long as i know concentrate on fun and gameplay. mulitplayer is where its at in my opinion when it comes to consoles and nintendo have always been top notch. wii looks like its going to be nothing different, and i cant wait. games look so fun. and yeh wii has grown on me too

I don't neccesarily think the Wii is the best console, but I do love the way they've gone about things.
Whenever you hear from Microsoft or Sony it's usually in the form of CGI so they can argue who has that tiny little bit of extra performance.

Don't get me wrong though, I have an XBOX360 and think it's a fabulous machine. I've had it since launch and use it nearly everyday.
It's practically the media hub in the middle of my home too.

But I just love the way Nintendo are marketing the Wii, it strikes me as such a simple stroke of genius!

Apparently one of the criteria involved in chosing the name was something that wouldn't be abbreviated, like NES, SNES, GC, GB, etc.

I have tbh I think you could be right about the name. At first I thought it was a joke and it nearly put me off buying a Wii. But now there is something about the name which is brilliant. I think Nintendo have done some fantastic marketing with this launch and unlike other console makers I think everything they are telling us about the Wii is true with no kind of salesman techniques/bullpoo to entice us to buy a console which is purely there for graphics and the occasional "decent" game.

LOL, I hadn't thought of that. I am just excited at the number of games at launch and at the price. It's about time, I didn't get the xbox or ps2 because the games cost so much.. I think with some of the multi-game packs they will be releasing as well as the ability to by roms of older snes, n64, gc games for cheap, it will make it an all around Nintendo lover's dream.
