Gaming on Vista

Im thinking of upgrading to Vista.

Will getting the 64bit version make much difference speed wise and anyone able to quantify this?

Plus I expect there to be a slow down in all my games due to the increased resources that Vista uses; am i thinking correctly?

I want to upgrade, but I dunno if Id be wasting my time if it just makes everything run slower.

notsure about the 64bit version but the 32 bit is fine for gaming, it doesn't appear any slower than XP.

ive been using it since November (business version) :-)

all depends on your rig but yes theres at least a 10% decrease in performance, weather thats vista fault or lack of drivers only time will tell

I'd say drivers at this point - they're awful. Rumour is we'll see 'proper' (non-beta) drivers on the 30th.

Yea, its all down to drivers at the moment.

Beta drivers are fairly good, I have been running games like Source and stuff on beta CATs and beta sound drivers. Rest of the drivers are all standard OS drivers. I'm using 64 bit and performance in games are amazing, such as CSS/HL2 and loads others which perform better than XP did on beta drivers!

Im just worried its a similar thing to the 98 to XP upgrade wher ther was a significant speed difference, and then no one cared anymore because faster hardware came out as opposed to better drivers.

Ive just upgraded so dont wanna do it again soon!
