    work experience

well.........im a 2nd year product and furniture design student and iv been thinking about careers, i quite like the idea of being a consultant or buyer for a company.

work experience is proving quite hard to find, i dont want to be paid jus want to get an idea of working environments etc. it seems unless u know someone they dont reply

just wondering if ne1 had ne advice on how to go about getting work experience or a company thats known for taking on work placements?

My advice, unfortunately, would be to know someone. That's what got me my current placement - a year as an actuarial assistant. If you don't know anyone related to the business, my advice would be to send out covering letters to all the firms in your area. Explain the situation, clearly state what you're looking for, and don't spell 'anyone' 'ne1'. Find out who you should be writing to (generally you'll want someone in HR), and send 'em off. The majority will be ignored, or rejected, but with any luck you'll get a couple of interviews. If that fails, cast your net wider.

just keep applying to loads- my university had a list of companies who were looking for placement students. I applied to about 30, got asked by 10 for interviews before I got offered a work placement which I accepted

work exprerience is definately good, and I really like the company and job I'm doing. I'm expecting a contract being offered once I graduate as my supervisor says I've done incredibly well for the time I've been there.
