    Music Video Feedback

    Hi,

For part of my final year project for my Multimedia course I made a music video for a local band my brother is in.
I have to evaluate it for the next assignment and would appreciate some feedback.

    FEEDBACK LINK

Maybe if you know a bit about Media studies or similar things this might be of particular interest.
It's quite hard to get feedback on these things, despite posting it on Facebook in various places.
Hope you like it. It took much effort indeed.

Maybe reply to the post to show your interest if you've given some feedback?

    Thanks,

not bad for a first go 8)

    IMHO:
more crash zooms, abrupt changes of direction, extreme close-ups - all would add more variety to the piece, considering the style of music. I know it's too late to go back and reshoot, but just some ideas

also, most of the framing is straight on to the subject - try some more unusual angles, eg off the floor / overhead etc. Or very tight, eg on mouth, on eye, on hands on frets etc

less of the slo-mo unless really closeup - for the material you have there.

in the end, just experiment. there is no right or wrong in music videos, just what works better

Blueprint - I'm at work at the moment, so I can't really check it out but have you tried asking for opinions on www.videoforums.co.uk ?

You'll get constructive, helpful, friendly and honest advice there - plenty of the people there know what they're doing but are also supportive of newcomers. Be warned though; they can be very honest as well

Not bad, as has been said more variety with the angles would've improved things, slipknots video for before I forget this is a prime example of how you can use different shots and have the band members almost out of frame for the majority of the video.

For my money the band could've helped out a bit by pumping up their stage presence and possible getting a crowd of fans in the video aswell, but thats neither here nor there really its still alot better than some local band's video's I've seen.

    Thanks.
I do like that Slipknot video. It does demonstrate that the members do not HAVE to be in shot all of the time.
I think shot creativity would have been beneficial.

You may have made a connection between Metallica's video for Nothing Else Matters and my video. I did take alot of inspiration for my video from Metallica's such as the studio shot and the overlays.

Just a quick tip, try putting the music usually about 4 frames (depending on format and quality this may vary) ahead of the video, it also depends of the program you use but I was always told to do that. Those guys SO need long hair. Maybe you could cut someones hair into it?

    I'll get my coat
    With love and many thanks,
