    Question Dental Prices

Hi guys its been a long time (about 5-6 years) since ive been to dentist. Ive never needed to go!

I do now though as i think i need a filling or two. But i have to ask, is it expensive? Do people who go to university full time get any kind of discount or are they expected to pay for that too? Out of what little money they already have!

    I live in N.Ireland.

I have read in some palces though that you have to be under 18 to get free treatment.

I hope it is free because tbh students dont have the money for dentists nevermind anything else!

I've had to fork out £403 this year for 4 fillings and 4 pressure sealants as I didn't go for ages... definitely paying the price now. Will start going once a year again. Learnt my lesson.

Went in with excessive toothache, had an infection behind a tooth which was excruciating.

The NHS thing stops at 19 for free treatment, otherwise its nhs prices.

Thats a joke. Your in full time school paying £3,070 alone for the tuition fees and thats leaving out course expenses and accommodation and your still expected to pay for nhs dental treatment?

    Bloody joke!

    Indeed.

Many people have shown it's cheaper to go out of the UK for dental treatment than it is to pay through the teeth by going private.

If you've not got an NHS dentist - your screwed basically, as 1/2 of them are not taking on new patients and when they do accept a few new patients you need to book 5 days off work to sleep outside the surgery fighting with all the woman etc to get a place.

Dentistry within the UK is a joke but it's glazed over by the news every now and again.

I dread the day I need dental treatment and have to go to the ward next door to sell a kidney in order to pay for what treatment is needed.

Yeah definitely no discount for students, as I found out

£15 just for a check up! Think it was £40 for a filling at our place.

find out if there is a dental hospital near you, students are supervised heavily and could save you some cash

My local NHS dentist charges about £23 for a check-up. Not bad considering my local private practice charges £150!

    Bloody joke!

I got stung for that too last time I went for a checkup (about november)
cost me about £20 for a checkup, made sure I got an x-ray (had been punched in the mouth and one of my teeth felt a bit out of place) to get my money's worth

It's a joke, I didn't think I would have to as I was unemployed aswell at the time....but that doesnt count if you're a student!

I go abroad when I need something done or a check up. Last time, dentist in Belgium saw me on a Saturday with 2 days notice, check up, plaque removed and one filling for the princely sum of 25 euros...

prices are high, but in some areas they charge a bit lower, like my sister paid i think £55 for a silver filling, and her friend who lives in a different area paid £43 for a white one!

i just dont get why its so expensive, damn playing £400 when your a student.

hmm, i didn't pay as a student.... you need to go to your doctors and get the form to apply for a HC2 form. Once you have this you can get free dental care for the year and all students should be able to get it.

I've just gone for the first time in 20 Years!

I had this lot done after I couldn't take the pain of a broken tooth:

    • Initial examination and tooth extraction.
    • 4 X-rays.
    • 1 hour scale and polish.
    • 4 fillings.

I had the above done over a 8 week period and it cost £450 - I would have paid anything to get rid of the pain!

I was frightened silly before going, but am now booked in for a check-up with the wife and kids in 6 months.
