Not quite as straight forwards as the thread title suggests, as i'm not really talking about people who put sugar in their own coffee - thats your own mistake and you deserve to suffer for it by drinking that sugary mess you have just created - i'm talking about the coffee pods/packs/sachets you can buy at your local super/hypermarket.
The reason i'm asking is that today I finally recieved my douwe egberts cafe-switch free sample, which I had been wanting to try for a while out of curiosity.
I really wish I hadn't now.
It tastes like theres about 10 kilos of sugar in it!! Theres no coffee taste, just sweetness (this was the 'creamy' one)..
The same goes for numerous other instant/ready made coffee products..most do have 'reduced sweetness' offerings but in my experience they are still sweet, and still contain sugar. The most annoying is the 'rocket fuel' coffee drink that Tesco sell, which is one of those self-heating coffee drinks. Now I would love to be able to take a few of those off snowboarding with me, would be awesome to get to the top of a mountain and be able to have a hot (albeit instant) coffee without having to board to a cafe-stop..but oh no, its pure sugar in a packet again.
Anyway mini-rant over Is there any real reason that manufacturers put sugar into these products, beyond to ruin the taste? I was thinking maybe as a preservative or something..but surely there must be a better way?
Also, is it just me that thinks like this? Or do some of you have the same problem..
