What is it about owning a PC that....

Turns ordinary people into complete morons?

I mean seriously, it's like they open the box and instantly their IQ drops about 50 points and start ramming chocolate pudding into any available space.

I say this because I just had a PC come back with a CDROM drive full on washing up liquid which has spread into the whole PC. Froth and lemon smell galore.

Turns out the guy got a "check your disc is clear" error when installing from a scratched CD and his friend mentioned he uses a "CD cleaner with cleaning solution". So, not having this he decided to squirt fairy liquid on a CD and put it in.

AT WHAT POINT DID THAT SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA?

    /rant

I wouldn't be so annoyed if he wasn't pulling his face demanding we fix it under warranty.

And while typing this I've had a lady in moaning like anything because she's come back off holiday and the PC isn't working and she could have bought one from Currys but her friend told her to come here and why do we sell such crap PC's if they can't even boot up etc etc etc.

The problem? It was saying "Invalid boot disk" and she'd left a floppy in the drive.

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

Where on earth do these people come from? Actually that fairly liquid idea sounds like quite a laugh if you've got a spare PC lying around you don't mind ruining Gotta give it a good squirt though.

Don't even get me started on the guy who took a hacksaw to an AGP card so it would fit into a PCI Slot, then brought back the 2 pieces and said "It's faulty, I want a refund.

Or the guy who bought a USB PCI card and fitted it dangling between 2 ISA slots and said "I thought it was Infra Red!"

    Is that for real?
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

I (admittedly) worked for a PC repair company about 7 years ago. The guys I worked with were clueless, and the guy who owned the company was even more clueless. I'm glad I ended up writing software that's for sure. Leave the computer stuff to people like Dell, and hope that there's some intermediary person conversing between you and the technical people.

Sadly yes, he was very vocal and even threatened to call the police when we said we wouldn't refund him.
