And so it seems that Mr Brown has plans to increase tax on fuel to give more to education.
Whats everyones reaction to this? Good or bad thing?

Bad. We get screwed for enough tax as it is. Labour are just throwing money at problems without putting in any checks or controls to ensure the cash is spent correctly. When their plans don't work they just throw more money at the problem but of course we have to pay for their extravagances.

What gets me too is that he said that China have 4 million graduates per year compared to 250,000 in the UK. That to some sounds fair enough, planting the thought for better education, but if you break it down further it means there are less graduates per million people in China than in the UK. From basic calculations 1 in 330 people in China have a degree compared with 1 in 220 in the UK. Surely this is a more valid arguement that we in the UK are technically more educated?
I think he might be trying to pull the wool over the general publics eyes. But it aint working with me..

Labours answer to everything is tax and I highly disagree with it.
They say it'll go to education but does current road tax go to road upkeep and NHS?... I highly doubt it.
This is all going to pay for stupid ideas like EMA ?
Right, i dont usually forward these, but this got posted on a forum i visit, and as its a government website that the petition is on, i went for it.
so all you drivers really do need to sign this!! we shouldn't have to be taxed on what roads we use, and have tracking devices implanted in our cars (automatic systems no less will be put on the trackers to view how fast cars are going on which roads... so break the speed limit, even accidently, or to avoid an accident, and BAM, NIP through the post - judge dredd swearing machine anyone?)
right heres the link:

Heres the information i was shown:
This is the biggest move to tax & infringe on privacy ever proposed in this Country!
Best sell your fast car ASAP as it wont be worth buttons if this happens!
No apologies for sending this on...This may not interest you and if it doesn't please simply delete it - if you're a motorist, read on and do your duty!
It was stated on the news this morning (27th November 2006) one of the reasons this proposal has been suggested was to raise money for possible road building and improvements to existing roads. It should be noted that all the money currently collected by the DVLA for road fund licences, only 23% - 24% is actually spent on road building and improvements!
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect an NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website, sign up here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Labour tax and ban.
Where's the radical reforms they promised?
I know a lot of people on these forum are anti-American, but at least they look after their own people (Even treading on others toes to do so).
Ever heard of walking, or the bus?
Is it becoming america - must have a car to do anything? Maybe I'm just lucky to live near a bus stop... I just hate the whole 'school run' thing, the parent paranoia - I used to ride 5-10km to school, and here you should be closer than that thanks to 'Catchment areas'.
To be honest, I have been working since 1981 and I can honestly say whichever chancellor has been in office the rate of income tax has made no noticeable difference to me.
The people you hear banging on about 'high' taxes are generally those who are in the top few percent of wage earners, not the average bod.
Personally I would be happy to pay an extra couple of percent tax if I knew that the money was going towards the NHS and education, not syphoned off to some bent business or third world dictator.
