IMO the seller should give feedback as soon as they receive payment or as soon as the payment is clear in the case of cheques.

in the perfect scenario i believe that the buyer leaves feedback when the item is recieved, then the seller does the same.
That's partically why I've not been giving feedback as the buyer until I've recieved some myself, since my part of the transaction is usually finished in the first 10 mins of buying.
However, since in the past week for so, I've made 2 ebay purchases, and both of them have wanted feedback first, I'll probably give feedback whatever now. It only takes 30 secs to do anyway .
but if you sell 100s of items, then leaving feedback can take quite a while. I do leave feedback - but it is a fairly low in prority when compared to listing, packing. My main job is more of a priority than ebay.
Sometimes leaving feedback can be delayed for a week or two - it amazes me how some people will hassle for their feedback. Cause, once you've got more than 15-20 the actual number of feedbacks is fairly meaningless.
When im buying anything as soon as i receive the item i give feedback...If im the seller i wait for them to give me feedback first then do the same.
definately buyer first, otherwise its pointless because the transaction has not completed??!!

I picked buyer.
As soon as the buyer gives good feedback you know the deal has went through smoothly so can give the same back.

If I sell something I wait until the transaction is complete and the buyer has left feedback, If I buy something then I leave feedback as soon as the items arrived and I've checked it over and am happy with it.
Not really. As soon as the seller has the money for the item the buyer has done what is expected of him and paid for the goods. his/her side of the transaction is done and they should be left feedback on it regardless of whether or not they have received the goods.
It's not the buyers fault if when the goods arrive they are not as advertised or faulty in some way or any other situation that would deem negative feedback. I've been using ebay since dec 2000 and have lost out on countless feedback when buying things because when they have arrived through one thing or another, being miss advertised, broke and so on, I have had to complain and in doing so lost feedback on a transaction in which on my part I have completed efficiently.
If the seller has nothing to hide about the item they are selling then there is no reason I can see as to why they should not leave feedback as soon as they have payment.

The thing is, as Akwaaba said, feedback is completely pointless for a buyer. What difference does it make if you have 20 or 200. As a seller you can add certain limits such as no-one with a negative rating can bid/buy but other than that I have no way of stopping you bidding or doing a buy it now.
It depends on whether you are selling as a business or as a person but if as a business the transaction is not complete until 7 business days after the day the goods are received as per the Distance Selling Regulations.
That's awesome until something gets damaged in the post, the buyer blames you and gives you a negative as soon as he receives it because he's a ******, whilst you've got relatively little recourse on that shiny "FAST PAYMENT GOOD BUYER A+++++" you've given him. It's scary how many people there are on eBay that just don't know how it all works, that if something goes wrong the first place they hit is the feedback forum, not the contact form. It's not worth the risk.
Look at it this way.
You are a Seller. You leave +ve feedback. But, the buyer stabs you with a -ve feedback. Your loss!
But, if buyer first gives feedback, you can match it. -ve given and then you can give a -ve. > Ultimately, both of you will agree to withdraw your feedback
I have had many sales where buyers don't leave feedback. I just mail them requesting to do so. If they don't, I don't!
