I swear to any animal lovers out there, it was not intentional!
Our car park is open air, but covered in pigeon net. The pidgeons however have learnt to sit on the roof of cars going through the automatic gate (or waiting for one to trigger the gate and fly in). We have a U shaped ramp under the office building to my space.
Next to my space on a girder supporting the office is a pidgeon nest. Every day for the last three months or so I've seen the pidgeons build their nest and raise their young.
Until this morning when I drove down the ramp going from bright sunshine to darkness. First thing I knew was a pidgeon taking off from the floor of the ramp in shadow. As I reversed into my space, I thought about how lucky the pidgeon was it saw me coming. As I got into my space (directly facing the ramp) I noticed the prone body at the bottom of the ramp, the body of the mother of two I watched grow up. As if to upset me further, the two baby pidgeons (who have taken to flight) were then standing next to the body cocking their heads to one side, as if saying 'come on mummy, get up'. At least the father got away.
Upstairs in the office the civil engineers (who hate pigeons, we spend thousands getting rid of them and cleaning up their mess and repainting bridges because of them) compared me to the hunter who killed bambi.
Now of course, I believe the pigeons are watching me. Perhaps planning on a suitable revenge. They are sitting on the ledge watching me...
So, the big question is, how many points do you get for a stationary pidgeon, and do you get more if the young are watching?
