My Delivery Rant!!

Ok so heres the problem. I'm looking to buy a sony KDL32D3000 LCD TV. Now i found an excellent deal on John Lewis. It was £799 with 5 years warranty and free delivery. I thought well thats bloody brilliant.

So i ring up today to order. Everything is fine and the polite lady (who for whatever reason is an american person in a scottish store but thats besides the point) asks me where its being delivered to. I said N.Ireland.

This is where the problems began. She says well we don't do free delivery for N.Ireland. I say, well its part of the UK last time i checked or we wouldnt have went through 30 years of bloody terror. The woman says " to deliver it to N.Ireland we would need you to pay £101 for a delivery charge".

Im like WTF!!!! Complete piss to be honest. Lets just say i didn't order the TV from them. England fights for 800 years to keep the bloody place only to diddle us every chance they get. Screw that to be f***ing honest. I went to Manchester for 3 days at the start of the year and couldnt beleive how much cheaper everyday things where compared to N.Ireland. Its a joke.

I mean maybe people are going to say what do you expect. You should pay more as your not mainland UK. But at the end of the day we are still part of the UK and shouldnt have to pay outragous delivery rates. £101 was taking the piss. £50-£60 i could live with but not that.

I have put an order through Empire Direct and it has only charged me £15 delivery but i know they are going to ring me up asking for more. At a loss where to buy if i get turned down from there too or if they ask for £100!!!!

I have to say it does suck - are prices in RoI stores alot of more expensive? Would delivery from there be cheaper

The ones in RoI dont come with free guarantee. That would cost an extra £200 on top. And there sets are mroe expensive too. Yet again N.Ireland is the middle-man

Other than the price of delivery, I can almost gurantee London is WAY more expensive to live in than N. Ireland, even if we get free delivery etc.

But I too was utterly shocked to find that £10 EASILY covered a six beer round, there was even legroom for a seventh pint in there as well! :O

You'd get half as many in your average London pub or bar.

However, considering how much I buy online, I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel about your delivery rates.

same in glasgow, although it depends where you go. sometimes you'd probably get about 5 pints, most likely about 3-4.

However, I know they said free delivery, but theres probably a clause somewhere in the small print that says "mainland UK only". Its not really the governments fault though is it?

Glasgow average pub prices are £2:40 a pint, which is still pretty outrageous imo

I can understand your issues but if you had a company based in mainland UK take this into consideration

If companies offer free delivery the cost of delivery is actually not free as they still have to pay this cost so they incorporate this into the product price but make you think its free delivery. Although you are part of the UK you are not mainland just like Jersey etc who still pay similar, actually more to get things shipped from mainland. If you sold big equipment like LCD TV's to mainland UK and it cost you £10 to deliver to mainland and £60 to non mainland if you kept the same price for delivery you would be shooting yourself in the foot and losing £50 on the sale can you se the point here. The question you have to ask yourself is how much is the product in Northern Ireland to buy do you still save money?

back to the point... it sucks that it costs 100 quid for postage... a few years back i got a guitar and hardcase sent to me from the USA, only cost 100quid postage

Like i said Paul £50-£60 i can get but £101 is over the top. I have never been charged that much in my life and i have ordered a hell of a lot of bigger things than that.

I knew that i would have to apy something i jsut never in a millian years expected it to be that much.

your kinda in same boat as me live in scotland no where near highlands but some couriers think were are in highlands and charge us alot more

sucks tbh but others dont charge any more

also you might be cheaper to driver over and buy then head back

about £2.50 a pint for a grolsche/heineken/stella here. unless you go to a wetherspoons or something.

£101 postage is shocking.
