I laugh now when i remember that one of the dinobots was called 'Slag' - never batted an eyelid at it before... And for the whole film borrowing thing - Do you mean the Original Animated Movie or the Arrival from Cybertron prelude?

PM me if its the movie - i have it on DVD... Actually I have the other on VHS somewhere....

They were even harder than the Autobots, and would help out sometimes when it all went Pete Tong and Megatron needed a slap.
Weren't they also immensely lazy and had to be coaxed half the time? All I remember is Grimlock constantly on about himself: "me, Grimlock!"

    "Me Grimlock, Me King!"

    iirc

The lazyness came from the fact that when they were created they didn't really have enough bits to make them intelligent.. Swoop was apparently the most intelligent, but I reckon that was only to stop him flying into things..

They were 'goodies' but half the time they couldn't really be arsed fighting the good fight.

Then they'd step outside their cave thing, large it, sorting out whatever the problem was, and back to the cave for half a series.

I didn't remember there was one called Slag though! If so, Slag the Dinobot is deffo my new fav.

    EDIT - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slag_%28Transformers%29

'Slag's biggest weakness is his over-aggressive behavior, which can cause problems with his relationships with other Autobots.'

    Some things never change.

I disagree with the OP to be fair, I thought the film was fantastic.

There are of course sacrifices made in character design and storyline which will annoy some but they are really necessary when bringing Transformers to the big screen, otherwise half the audience wouldn't understand what the hell is going on.

Despite the few minor niggles like not enough character development for the decepticons it's hands down one of the best films I've seen in recent memory.

Starscream stole the show for me to be honest, I won't spill the beans but he had one of the best scene's in the film in my opinion.

    BUT

I just a HD trailer from apple last night and well, maybe its the 'best bits in the trailer' syndrome, but it did look great - and to be honest, I've always been a person to want to make up my own mind on a film, instead of looking at reviews. When is it out in the UK - or is it out already? Also - in regards to the quote above about the transforming sounds - it sounded like it was just going to be whirring sounds - think the citreon c4 ads - but then in the clip I saw, there was that famous ch-cher-cher-cherrrr sound, which is pretty nostalgic! If you dont know what that means, then you are too young....

Time to drag out the copy of the animated movie to see methinks!
Galvatron (a reborn megatron) transformed into a spacecraft similar to the one megatron transforms into in the film so I didn't have a huge problem with that bit of artistic license to be fair.

The best bits aren't all in the trailer either, by a long shot

Glad to hear that there are still good bits left but, and sorry for doing this - *puts on 'nigel' voice* didnt Galvatron just transform into a particle cannon? Like when he shot starscream at the fake coronation in the animated movie...

    Anyway - forget that...

Galvatron did indeed transform into a particle cannon in the original film,if I remember rightly though there is a story arc where he has the ability to transform into a spacecraft thats not unlike the recreated version of thundercracker (scourge I think he was called).

    Cyclonus iirc

Which highlights the scale problems - Cyclonus in robot form was the same size as Galvatron, but when he transforms he ends up big enough to carry Galvatron in the cockpit..

It's pretty much what I remember too . . . maybe that's how Roller got his name (even though he's the little spy car inside the trailer). Damn thing couldn't talk, could only bleep.

Yup, they never really could figure out what to with his trailer, sometimes it literally just vanished, other times it just rolled away off "camera".

I vaguely remember one episode when they actively used the trailer unit though, and roller - something to do with a cave in?
