What people don't understand when they quote pre built PC price and then compare with off the shelf components is the price of labour.
When you start looking at
the cost of the building,
the tooling/equipment,
electricity, water rates
business rates
employee pay
NI
complying with all the rules and regs
aftermarket support
etc
etc
etc
then the cost of employing someone per hour is not cheap. It is well known that PC manufacturers run on tiny margins per PC. If it was easy to make £1000 per machine then we'd all be doing it
Search in the hardware forums for topics with regards to people starting their own PC building services and 99% of the threads will say "don't bother it's a nightmare and you'll never make any money and be forever answering the phone with calls from muppets cos windows crashed".
Labour cost is the reason many build their own pc's. It's not hard to do and there are many guides out there.

well i have specced up for £830 a system that will run just as good, from scan as well
managed to talk the guy out of prebuilt, well he talked himself out after we compared the 2, he is now going to build his own with me on the other end of a webchat no doubt.
but in the mean time he found his old video card, dropped it in to find its working now ( other cards blown) so the pressure is off and he is holding out for quad core price drops, thanks for the input ChrisP
that system could do with a major rework, drop the dominator for something that will run the same and you can bump that crappy GTS to a GTX
GoNz0
Not a problem
The changes you have mentioned regd the Dominator and the GTS card are basically down to personal taste and the specifications match the high end title of the system.
A GTS card will run any game currently out there but you will notice we have the option available to choose standard XMS 2 PC6400 memory and also 2 x GTX options and 1 x ULTRA option to cater for all tastes so the specification will stay the same.
We list lower spec systems also to cope for the budget gamer, with the option to allow the customer to upgrade in the future
Best Regards

I noticed the same with Savrow....seem to have gone quiet.
I purchased one of their Dream Pc's 2 years ago and while it looked good on paper there were some issues with build quality and paint finsh. Apart from a few niggles I was quite pleased even if it did cost. Working out the cost of equipment I reckon they add 100% for building the rig.....nice job if you can get the work eh
