    Spam text messages

    I hate them.

Im with vodafone on pay as you go. I get the odd one from vodafone telling me about a new deal, which is irritating enough, but when it is some other random number that says "You have won £9 gizillion then i get annoyed.

Is the anyway to get vodafone to not give my number out, or just it just generate random numbers and send the message?

    Will

I would be surprised if Vodafone gave out your number to any third party companies, at least not without your permission. It is more likely that you gave your mobile phone number to a company which has since sold it on or sends these messages themselves. A common company that people gave their mobile number to was BoltBlue, in order to receive those free operator logos.

Another possibility to consider is that even though your mobile number might be newly allocated to you. It might have been used before. In a previous discussion on this board (I hope) I was told that mobile phone numbers are reused after six months. So in theory if your “new” mobile number was on the lists under a previous owner then it might still be.

As for a solution, it is difficult because you cannot guarantee that any opt out numbers they give you won’t just result in you being added to more SMS spam lists.

Yeah its around 6 months and then the number is reused. If its a 6 digit number starting with an 8 contact Voda and give them the shortcode in full and they should be able to tell you who is sending them and also how to stop them if its from a 3rd party.
