Outsiders? I'm English, and I can't spell to save my life, as anyone on my MSN or SKYPE lists will confirm.

Tomorrow? Tommorow? Tommorrow? Tomatoketchupommorw? Its all the same to my simple brain.

My written English is a bit like fake boobs - look good from a certain distance, but get in close, and poke around, and you can see the clumsy joins.

I've recently been in the market for a new car. While browsing Piston Heads I've came across several beautiful cars only to read the description and be instantly put off (due to bad spelling/grammar). I don't want to buy my new car from an idiot.

    laze.

Thats just your pride getting in the way though

Its amazing how much spelling can portray a person. We are very judgemental towards people as soon as we see their spelling. Wonder why?
Do we see spelling as a sign of intelligence in this day and age?..

Very much so. Maybe not spelling as such, but the way people type.

If I see someone giving it 'LOLERSKATES!11! u r the rox', I can't but help think they have the IQ of someone who watches Channel 5 news.

Even people who type well, but all in lower case, get pushed into the thickie group.

Just the way things are, living in the world of the Playstation 3 generation.

I think people see spelling not just as a measure of intelligence, but as a measure of the level of care and thought that someone has put into something.

For example, with the car advert, the poor spelling would, to me, be indicative of someone who hasn't taken much care and/or time over the placing of the advert. Yes, some people do have issue with spelling, and unless you have a knack for it, it is easy to misspell certain words. But surely you would check, it's not exactly hard to run something through a spell checker. If you can't be bothered to do that, then it's likely that you might not be bothered to spend the time being honest about a car, or spend time treating it well, etc.

You can read (hur hur) lots of things into someones spelling, some of it justified and some of it not. I for one get a bit carried away with spelling and grammar, but I can see that the finer points of it are not easy.

Yep, that chimp does carry a lot of weight, does that make Clunk the monkey on his back?

anyways, my pet hate with poor spelling and grammar may well spring from having teachers as parents, but what i really hate is the gimps in MMORPG.

you all know the ones, c2 plz kk thx, sowplz, STFU NOOBZ WTF! etc etc.

these people are generally rude, incoherent, and usually poor players too, and i avoid them like the plague. If i am playing and chatting, i at least expect an intelligible, if not intelligent conversation.

one of my favourite quotes was from Everquest : -

If someone consistently uses plz instead of please simply because its shorter, then i feel perfectly justified in saying no, because its shorter than yes

I spend a lot of time typing stuff up, I have this stuck to my monitor:

    I have a spelling chequer
    It came with my P.C.
It cheques out all off my miss takes
    The ones I cannot sea,
Eye put this poem threw it,
I'm shore your pleased to no,
    Its rite in every detail,
    My chequer told me sew
    Really makes you cringe!

    It's possible.

It's also possible that someone trying to rip you off will take great care to make the advert look as good as possible, to try to gain credibility.

Personally, I'd buy a car based on my assessment of the car, and of the seller. I just don't think the spelling in the advert tells you much about the trustworthiness of the seller. But then, I could be wrong.

I hear you, and would probably go on the same thing too. But, unless you go and check out each car, its impossible to know if its just the person being lazy, or if they are selling a scrap heap.
