You being dangerous and shaving against the grain ?
If so, it ain't for everyone. A department store where I worked opened a mens grooming section, and had an shaving guru in for the opening. He told many horrible stories and put the fear of god into me and I do it no longer ! In Glasgow, you tend to listen to a man with a large open razor.
Going against the grain can bugger up your skin pretty badly seemingly, and cause ingrowing hairs, which are a lot nastier than they sound. I just put up with a bit of stubble now
I think I read somewhere that the holy grail of shaving, ie. getting as close as possible, was reached with the first twin bladed razors years ago... it's all just smoke and mirrors now.
What riles me, apart from the stupid number of blades and the gullibility of people believing a vibrating set of 5 blades is going to make them look like David Beckham, is that you see these guys in the adverts swooping foam off their cheeks is a quick swish, leaving perfect stubble free skin underneath...
If I did that I'd take a decent chunk of flesh and give myself massive razor burn... but then again, I'm not a model who's been moisturising my face every day and more than likely slapped four tons on Immac on to chemically remove my hair beofre going in for the filming...
I have a buddy who works in advertising, and he and his company won a campaign to sell some kind of " Shaving System" in the gulf. They had a company holiday in the Burj al Arab hotel to celebrate. The reason being that these crappy systems are one of the most advertising-rich products you can get.
Like washing powder, toothpaste and brushes, bank accounts, etc. the main differentiating factor is advertising cost.
There's a word for people who buy the best razors on the market. Suckers.
Try the cheapest disposables you can find and compare the quality and cost to those of the Gillette Lazermatic Concorde Xtreme 12-blade lubrastrip Black Shadow. You'll find that you still have to shave the next day with either.

Have a look here: http://www.shavingstuff.com/ (it's where arbitor got the pic)
there have an old school section. I was watching a couple of shaving guides linked from YouTube last night. very interesting. Might get myself one of those.
I'm currently using a Mach 3 with the extra vibratey bit in.
It seems to work a bit better than the other razors I use and doesn't inflame my skin as much, but no matter what I use I still get 5 o'clock shadow by dinnertime as it grows that quick.
Please somebody release an immac-style solution so I can be free from shaving and slicing my face.
Well, who's a manly man then?
I still hope one day to grow hair on my chest. I get 5 o'clock shadow in July, usually mid-month.

Try washing your face with cool water after shaving, not warm or hot... Works REALLY well at taking the heat out of your skin and closes your pores too, avoiding those summer sweaty faced stings.
When I was cooking I had to shave everyday and, if we had a function in the evening where I'd be out front, I'd have to shave before the evening service too... Going from having a shave into a 120 degree kitchen can be a nightmare but washing your face with water as cold as you can stand does the trick every time!
Does anyone like using those "wilkinson" sword razors with the protective "wires" going down the blade?
I don't know about you lot but I found these actually were a hinderance as hairs usually got stuck behind this wire causing the shave to be very uneven and a pain to complete once your halfway through.
I use a Gillette fusion razor (the standard non stealth one). Seems exactly the same as my old mach3, which seems exactly the same as my even older generic 2 blade razor.
Also £10 for 4 replacement blades? :O
I can't use any of these Razors, shaving wet, no matter what I try makes me look as if I've been hacked to death, yes I cut my self so badly that I just find it easier to stick with an electric Razor.
Hell yeah. I found something that as caused mine to subside nearly 100% and all I get now is 2 small patches on top of the adams apple.
If you want to know what this "something" is, it's that clearsil ultra facewash
Weird I know, but 1 of the chemicals in here must be stopping the inflaming and irritation. Also, I've found washing the blade more in hot water while shaving has also helped.
