    SavRow Razor 1.7 Laptop

SavRow's Razor 1.7 does a damn fine job of eliminating long-held belief that a laptop cannot be both thin-and light and a desktop-replacement at the same time. Copious amounts of power and a sub-2.5kg travel weight make it an attractive prospect for a wide range of buyers. £1469 is a lot of money - SavRow's Razor 1.7 is a fine way to spend it.

Now that is a very nice looking laptop!

Where about in the savrow range does that one fall? Just noticing that its only a 1.7GHz... (True it has 1mb of L2 though )

    I'd love one.

Are the new Pentium M's with 2mb of L2 meant to be alot better? Big performance increases?

The Dothans? We are yet to get one in to evaluate one. We can't give a definative answer as yet.

We do not have a definative answer, there is speculation but until I know for sure I can not confirm anything.

I'm probably alone on this, but looks-wise, I think it looks wonderful...until you open the lid, at which point I think it looks pretty bland and tacky I'm afraid. The spec's great, the price isn't exorbitant, I just don't like the look of it when it's open.

If desktop CPUs continue to get faster and as a result hotter, the Pentium M could very well end up in desktop machines...Linky.

As I said we can all speculate, but we are only stating facts.

david, do you know how arima got their 9700 to stock 450/250 mhz?

this is very high compared to what other ODMs have done, especially since this machine is so light (<5 lbs).

This has the potential to be huge???

Every other ODM I have seen with the 9700 has a stock setting of 390/200 Mhz. Even the brand new Asus M6Bne has these stock settings. The best OCing people with these cards are able to do stably is around 450/240.

How is Arima getting these kind of speeds stock in a sub 5 lb laptop? Do they just have amazing thermal systems in place? What does the fan layout look like? Are there fans on the bottom of the machine for the GPU (like the heavier sager systems)? Or, is their setup just running very close to its stable line, leaving no room for OCing?

3000+ in 3dmark03 with a stock 64Mb card is really good. If the other ODMs are not catching on to something Arima is doing, I would like to know so I can wait for a reseller to come out in the US.

    Does that answer your question?

SavRow's M.D told me that he's particularly pleased with the graphics core and memory clocks on the Razor line. It's not so much that Arima's boosting MR9700 specifications - 450MHz/480MHz is what we'd expect. Other ODMs, however, have chosen 'lesser' MR 9700s.

As far as I can tell, there's no special cooling directed at the graphics card.
