    Re: £37.99 for a watch battery :O

I like having a watch that's accurate to ~2s every month, but then I'm a bus driver and a stickler for running on time. The watch my wife bought me from Aldi for £17.99 two (or was it three?) years ago has admirably fulfilled the criteria.

When the battery runs out I'll have a crack at replacing it myself. And if I ruin the waterproof sealing that I rarely have any cause to use, then I'll buy another watch from Lidl or Aldi to replace it.

This is- IMO- a pretty handsome watch BTW, and it suits me. I've just had a play with the chronograph though and the fractions of a second hand has gone a bit iut of alignment. Oh dear.

    Re: £37.99 for a watch battery :O

I've a Tag and have had 2 batteries fitted in the 12+ years I've owned it.

It does cost about £30 and takes a week to be changed as it's done by Tag's presence in the UK.

And yes, a £2 cheapy digital will keep better time than the £700 I paid for mine but it's my only ever real label purchase. It's a high price to pay for the replacement but it's not like it's only going to be about £2 from a market stall, if you pay the purchase cost of the timepiece then little wonder you pay the same price premium to have it serviced.

I don't know what the warranty on the watch itself it, but I had one of a duff batch of straps on mine (or bracelets as the posh ones call them) which came loose after 18 months. I was told it was warrantied for 12 months until I ranted in the dealers about the expected service life of the watch to be limited to an operational 1 year, especially given the brand. They replaced the bracelet for free.

I was given the watch a birthday present so had no idea of the cost, I knew they are expensice, but not how expensive. So it was a little shock for me at the price, but I guess you are right.

I'm gonna take it back in today and put in for replacement.

    Thanks for the help guys.

lol.. funnily enough I did see an article once about a huge mobile watch thing. Anyhow, one of the watches I got is a Seiko automatic one which is powered by movement so didn't need a battery.

My bold. Lets look at it another way. Say you have the battery replaced for £15 (a saving of £23) by someone who is not authorised and therefore breaks the warranty. What happens if you get it wet or it breaks? That's right you have saved £23 in order to loose a present (and £££ if you want to replace it).

The reason the cost is "high" is because people's time does not come free. You are paying labour (and postage) costs, but you will end up with a watch that will run for another 8 years that also has a guarantee. Pay the cash and have peace of mind.

I've been looking to pick up a cheapish Seiko Kinetic or Citizen EcoDrive in titanium too. Maybe next time in Vegas at the Seiko outlet up past the Stratosphere tower.

lol. I wish it was a proper kinteic. It's just a cheapo Seiko with automatic features. Not sure how it differes from a Kinetic though. It deos have nice 21 jewel movement though - you know the sweeping second hand.

Not strictly true. It'll last about 10 years before it loses the ability to hold a charge.

No batteries OR kinetic here - I have a Casio Wave Ceptor - solar powered and also radio so it sets itself and maintains perfect time.

    Brilliant watch - love it

Wow neat. Saves the trouble of setting the time and replacing battery. Can't say I'd fork out that much for a watch though
