No, I just find it hard to take the bloke seriously. He's a good guest on Have I Got news For You though.

If I had the chance with one of the cheeky girls I'd be going for it too!

I've voted Lib Dem twice in a row but I don't like them now. Our MP was a berk and a let down (as well as arrogant and too important to respond to the two letters I wrote to him, our Tory MP always wrote back) and I thought they were opportunistic over the Iraq War too. JMHO, of course. I'm half hoping for some sort of coalition too.

    Re: Election And Stuff.

That's something that annoys me, people who are "too disillusioned" to vote. It certainly isn't going to change on it's own!

Use http://www.writetothem.com/ whenever you're doing a letter to your MP, it actually tracks whether your MP has responded and it makes the process quite simple which is always a bonus. I had some correspondance with my MP over some issues with some NHS reforms. Turns out the MP in my old town was on the Committe reviewing them and through that, found out that they weren't such a big a deal as the media was making them out to be.

The whole point of democracy is the MP's are our representatives, the reason they seem overpaid and underused is because WE, the people, don't use them!

    Re: Election And Stuff.

Well choosing not to vote is also a democratic right.

I used writetothem for my MP and logged with them that he didn't reply. The more I think about it, the more it's helped democracy because he's annoyed me so much I'm going to vote Tory.

But wait.....what if people spoil their ballots or write 'none of the above' instead......because I'm sure that will really send a powerful message of criticism that will cut to the bone of politicians everywhere. I bet they lie awake at night worrying about what mild irritation has motivated someone with little or no understanding of politics and nothing better to do on polling day than to write something subversive on a pieve of paper that will not be seen by anyone other than the retired schoolteacher who throws it away in between counting all the other papers.

    Re: Election And Stuff.

I'll be voting for my local area's best hope for a better future, voting against the people in the big seats is pointless unless they also happen to be your local MP - they all make the same mistakes, and they all spout the same lies - that's why they're politicians, they're professional liars...

My local MP has actually been trying to make a difference to the area, but unfortunately things are still veto'd by the local and county councils, which are both Tory and seem to be more interested in lining their own and their friend's pockets..

    Bah humbug.

This clearly annoys the both of you a lot.
You must have really easy going lives with nothing to worry about if that kind of thing bothers you.

    Re: Election And Stuff.

I guess I'll vote Lib Dem- purely tactical voting, as the tories have absolutely no chance round here. The Lib-Dems haven't much chance either IMO- althgough having said that our constituency boundaries have just been redefined and apparently the Lid-Dems got more votes than Labour in the council elections, so you never know. I might even go and campaign for them, since I think our current MP is a tw@.

I don't particularly care for the Lib-Dems though- stupid policy proposals like increasing road tax for 4x4s to £1000 a year especially get up my nose. I would vote Conservative if that was the sensible tactical vote in my area- and that's saying a lot for someone like me who spent years despising them.

I'm utterly fed up with the state of modern politics. There's no party out there that even comes close to representing my views- and short of starting my own party, there isn't a great deal I can do about it. So, given that there's not much I can do to change things, I've turned to pondering whether I want Gordon Clown to get in again. Of course, it'd be better for the future of the country if he were unceremoniously kicked out- but the vitriolic, schadenfreud loving bastard in me is pretty keen for him to get re-elected, so that he can be in charge when the country goes to hell as a result of his crappy stewardship of the economy.

Make no mistake- we are headed for a recession- a big recession. It's pretty much all Gordon's fault. And it would certainly be poetic justice for him to have his reputation destroyed as he totally fails to do anything about it (because he can't). I think I'll just buy a big stash of food, some candles, and a jerrycan or two of diesel, and hunker down to enjoy the show.

    Re: Election And Stuff.

As I said, the house price explosion was Gordon's fault too, or at least entirely preventable and at a net gain to the Treasury. My feeling is that, as most MPs have second homes and stood to may a good sum from them, everyone in parliament was quite happy to see home inflation, but that chicken has come home to roost now.

This is exactly how I feel. I've looked at the list of parties, their policies, their history and current state of affairs... and I can honestly say I do not know who to vote for. None of them seem to be willing to do what I believe needs to be done (which is also the same belief by the majority of the people) to get this countries arse in gear and to generally make it a better place to live.

So I'm on verge of putting my tick in the 'none of the above' box. It'll be better then my vote the last 2 times when I didn't actually vote at all.

I don't trust Alex Salmond, don't think he's got the Maths right on his Independence bid. I didn't mind that the SNP took more places in teh local councils though, the resident Labour Councillors round my area seem fairly complacent and corrupt!

Yes they set the rates 'independently', but the Chancellor chooses who is on the board that sets them, and they always get his approval first, its common knowledge.

Complaining that house prices have risen is nothing like your analogy, it was an obvious consequence of the move to control interest rates, one that Brown didn't anticipate and prepare for.

Labour are credible? Look at their record on all key areas

I've voted (in various elections) 6-7 times now and I've never seen a 'none of the above' box on any of the ballot papers. Have you ever voted in an election in the U.K.?

Your choice is either to spoil your paper (which essentially lumps you in with the 'I'm too thick to tick a box' constituency) or to vote for a 'protest' candidate. As long as it's not the BNP, I'd advocate the latter.
