sending a CV

i have a CV saved via Open Office. i want to send that CV to an employment agency online but im not sure/worried if they would see it as it is. my OO doesn't save my CV as a PDF. only as an .rtf. document. so, would it be practical to attach the .rtf CV (as the website is telling me) or send it/export it via as a PDF? what's the best way? i need advice please

Notepad can read rtf and that is std with all windows, so I would sat rtf is fine

If the website says to send it as an .rtf file, send it as an .rtf file.

another vote for RTF.

reason being is that a lot of employment agencies will parse your CV into a database - RTF is easier to parse

i send via pdf. but if stated a certain format then obviously dont send anything different.

Unless states otherwise I always send things as important as a CV in pdf format. Your guaranteed to get the same look/layout on any system that it's opened up on. However if they do want a particular format then don't send it, in anything other than that format.

In addition to the plug-in 5Cupa has provided there is also cutePDF. Once installed go to File > Print > Select CutePDF Writer from the list of printers and click print. Job done .

These days most employment agencies have CV databases that attempt to index your CV to build a skills and experience profile. For that they need your CV in a format that their software can parse. Most can parse CVs in a wide range of formats including PDF. It looks like yours prefers RTF for some reason. If you are not happy with that you can always use a different agency.

Using the database, when an agency receives a job spec (that they also parse), the database spits out a list of candidates, and only then does an agent look at CVs and decide who might be qualified. If the database can't see your CV, then the only time an agent will see your CV is when you first submit it. After that it will get lost in the database and never seen again.

im sorry to be a pain. the website is not telling me to send it as an .rtf or.doc or .txt ,etc. formats. but would exporting my CV as a PDF not attach it?
