    Malaysia firm's 'Muslim car' plan

    BBC NEWS | World | Asia-Pacific | Malaysia firm's 'Muslim car' plan
The Malaysian carmaker Proton has announced plans to develop an "Islamic car", designed for Muslim motorists.
Proton is planning on teaming up with manufacturers in Iran and Turkey to create the unique vehicle.

The car could boast special features like a compass pointing to Mecca and a dedicated space to keep a copy of the Koran and a headscarf.
How bizarre. What's next, the Christianmobile, a Gideons in every glovebox? Now before Saracen or someone else modslaps me, I'm NOT mocking anyone's religion, just that I find the whole idea of bringing religion into motoring just a bit silly tbh.

It's a big part of many peoples life, and as such they want to make a car to help them.

Also it will mean that London's C Charge camera's can easily identify a more likely suspect

As for a Muslim car, maybe they should do two versions, an extremist and none extremist version....

The extremist one would be like the VW polo..

Saw that clip recently in one of my MBA modules, and thought it was very funny. And in appalling bad taste. Sufficiently so that I object to you actually posting it on here. At least in the class it was being used to make a point about the fine line between effective advertising, and offensive advertising.

Re: Malaysia firm's 'Muslim car' plan

I love the idea of a compass that points towards Mecca, which presumably would have to use a GPS system to derive your location in conjunction with a conventional compass. Thus combining two quite useful items into a single one that is considerably less so.

Why does the popemobile have to be bulletproof anyway? Since he is held to be infallible, he would never commit such a glaring error as to position himself in the trajectory of a flying bullet and would actually be able to dodge hails of gunfire like "Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous" or for that matter, me in "Equilibrium".

I'm also vaguely disquieted by the thought of a religious leader who feels he needs to tool around in an armoured vehicle. Why not just go the whole hog and drive round in a tank. A nice panzer, like the good old days
