    Chairs

The chair ive got at this house for my computer is absolutley shocking.
    - I think its one of main contrubting factors that my back is hurting me quite a bit lately. That and lack of rest!

I dont want to go mad with some £200 branded chair, but im after a decent chair tha will be good for my back and us at the computer.
    - Does anyone have an suggestions or pointers as to what to look for in a chair?

    Re: Chairs

I got a bar stool from Ikea and loved it. Because it's quite tall you automatically sit straight. It was one of the cheaper ones, plastic seat and small back, 67cm or something.

Unfortunately now at uni I've got another comfy slump chair and I do get the lower back ache after a while. They just don't encourage sitting straight.

    Re: Chairs

I think a decent review would be in order tbh, the number of people that Hexus must know where they could get chairs and the number of users on here that use chairs, massive untapped requirement IMHO, maybe some sort of review and then a deal with some nice seat maker place that'll give us a bit of a discount

Me for instance, I need a decent chair that I can sit in for a fair few hours without getting sweaty arse/balls, about the same height as an office chair..

Erm, infact I'm gonna design a chair, I'll then pass the info onto the guys at here who can help revise it then Mr DR can send it away n we can have a "Hexus Elite Gamer" chair, for sale Q1 2009, target price £250.

    Re: Chairs

I have a Dr Evil style high backed leather chair which is great for posture, cost about £120 from Makro a few years back. Its dropping to bits now so I could use a good chair review site myself...

    Re: Chairs

Haha, this post does come up quite a bit and I usually chime in because it's something I think is very important for people who sit in front of the PC regularly/for long periods.

First of all, your budget is going to determine what features you get on the chair. Obviously you're going to get tilt and height adjustments but for most people, it's important to have good lumbar support because we all like to slouch (SIT UP STRAIGHT!!! ). Whether that is just a lump at the bottom of the back that pushes out your lower back or an adjustable feature will generally be determined by the price you pay.

Adjustable arms are nice to have but you're unlikely to get them for a cheap chair (i.e. £100 or under) but I couldn't live without them now.

I recently got rid of my Aeron (looked beautiful but should be half the price condiering the build quality and features you get) for a Kinnarps chair which isn't as pretty as an Aeron (what is though) but is so much more adjustable it's untrue. Plus you can adjust them to suit almost any height/weight person whereas something like an Aeron you can't.

If you live anywhere near Hemel Hempstead, I can give you a number for a local Kinnarps dealer who does some phenomenal deals on chair but you're really looking at about £200 to get a really good chair. Personally, I'd say just spend the money because you can either spend £200-£300 now on a nice comfortable chair or a £1k on chiropractor fees and having a dodgy back.

    Re: Chairs

But yeah i dont know really.
    - I dont want to spend mega bucks, and for now it has to be something approxamatly portable, as each year it will need to move between houses (placement, uni, etc).

But i'll have a look thought the suggested chairs now and try and find some past threads if there have been a few.

    Thanks, Daniel

    Re: Chairs

I went into staples and tried them all until I found one I liked. Leather with full adjustment and armrests. £65 iirc.

    Re: Chairs

Office reclaim shops are a very god place to look. We have one local where we bought our chair. Very comfortable: lumbar support, adjustable armrests, gas height adjustment, tilt etc. £30 and looked brand new. We later checked online and this chair usually goes for £300.

    Re: Chairs

Office chairs suck.. you wont get a good one unless you pay a lot, and avoid the cheap ones... I had two and they both broke or the foam went.

If you want a good cheap chair, goto a car breakers and look for something nice. Just about any will only cost you £20 -30 if its 1 month old (accident damaged car) or 16 year old like mine..

Mine cost £30, has built in height adjust, lower back adjust, back angle adjust and forwards/backwards which I wont be needing..
I bought it because it has an awesome headrest, when I start to fall asleep playing everquest I wont get neck ache or have to lean on my desk. Its from a saab 9000 and 16 years old, seems to be perfect condition with good foam, no marks on the leather and all the adjusters work.

I then got some wood from a fence post to raise it up by 8 inches. blocks of wood mean I can move it around easy yet not run over my headphone wire all the time

One more thing, some car seats have a lot of side support, which no office chairs really have since they dont expect you to be going round corners in them adds a lot to comfort. They are not leather, but some ford seats (mk3 SI fiesta) are quite awesome for side support.
