Mourinho ready to talk to England

BBC SPORT | Football | Internationals | Mourinho ready to talk to England

I thought he'd ruled himself out, but it seems not.

Surely if Jose is up for it, the FA have to give him the job?

He has a proven record, doing well with Porto and Chelski, he knows the English game, the English culture, and he has the balls and personality to deal with the English press.

    Absoloute turd

but yeh would be better than these people that have not really had success before...

So when they loose they cant blame the manager because he would be world class, whereas when we play bad you can sack of mclaren ect as they havnt ever done anything worthwhile anyway..

Never got why they always got ****e managers why not just get VERY successful ones?

I would love to see Jose as England manager. Even if he can't turn the team into anything useful, it'd be priceless just to see his post match interviews!

Would the FA be willing to risk him though? I get the impression the powers that be prefer to have a manager they can keep under wraps, I really don't think they'll be able to do that with Mourinho.

I doubt they'll risk it. Brian Clough was the best manager England never had for similar reasons.

It's too soon for Jose although he would bring some much needed charisma after sven and Mclaren. The fact that his a media darling screams of Keegans appointment and I don't think he want to ruin his special record just yet.

I hope they get someone older. They should have got scolari 2 years but messed up. Knowing the FA it will be someone English.

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

What's the worst that could happen? I think Jose is a reasonable suggestion. I think you need someone a bit aloof and arrogant to deal with the press and tell them to FO now and again. Atleast people couldn't blame the manager when we lose 1-0 to Azerbajan!

As has been mentioned it's upto the FA and I doubt that they will want to appoint someone who speaks their mind. The FA don't like criticism and it would be very damaging for the blazer set if that criticism came from a popular, press backed (and dare I say it) winning manager. Hell, hire the man now!!

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

This could end up being a similar thing as to what happened with France, they didnt qualify for WC94 and spent a few years building their team. Then went onto win WC98 and EURO 2000.

Mourinno is the only manager I've seen in England whose substitions actually work + half the England team has worked with him, thats gotta be a bonus.

We broke the bank for Sven so lets to it for José!

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

id be worried as a scot that with jose at the helm we may never hear the end of another trophy, i dont think he could win the world cup, but if he were to have a crack at the euros then im sure he could do it. just a shame the next euros are a long way off... ) but yeah hes got to be good shout, both scotland and england are in a funny position of needing a manager and their being no real preferred candidate in the running. i would prefer graeme souness and im sure a lot of english fans would like mourinho but neither fa will appoint someone who has a bigger media presence and personality than them...

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

When I look at the guy I see "Passion" and thats exactly what the players last week lacked, only David Beckham went over to the England fans at the end of the game. The rest trotted down the tunnel.

Mourinho said it all when he arrived in the UK...

Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one

I reckon Capello would be better for england than mourinho, as capello is a hard ass who could get the players in line

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

Keegan was the peoples choice, soon to be the suns choice and that was a bad appointment.

Personally i think the FA should ask Hiddink (Russian coach) after the euro's to come in for two years. England's problem isn't necessarily the coach. It's at grassroots level. We lack the technical side of the game and it showed against Croatia.

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

Technically the first-choice national team is fine (except for up front, and the never-ending search for a left-footer who's natural position is the left of midfield), but we're a bit lacking in depth. Most of our top 11 would fit into the top 11 of most clubs. I just think it's egos - Beckham is the only one who's shown any passion of late, and he's past it in many people's eyes. None of the others have shown the same commitment that they have for their club, and when Terry and Gerrard don't rise up to the challenge the team suffers as a whole. I think they need someone bigger than the players or a master in mind-management, but I don't think the FA have the balls to appoint someone who might annoy a member of the dressing room.

I'd put Hoddle back in. He wasn't a master tactician, but we don't need one at international level. He had some very weird ideas, but they worked on the teams he put out. I think he was our best manager since Bobby, and possibly before. It's all publicity and face at the FA. If the media don't like something, then the FA bow to their demands, and Hoddle's off the field oddities served to prove that to me.

Lets be honest anyone who takes this job will be sacked sooner or later. The FA need to sort out the other issues in football and stop blaming the manager.

Re: Mourinho ready to talk to England

Looks like the BBC has changed its tune as that link now leads to a page titled 'Hiddink cool on England prospects'.

I've had BBC News 24 on for most of the day, and the only thing I've heard mentioned about it is people from Jose's camp denying that Jose has had any sort of talks with the FA. That seems to be mentioned at the bottom of this article now.

However, I would love to see him as the next England manager.. much rather that than another Premiership club Only thing is, I'm not sure if someone of his caliber wants to be in charge of a team that hasnt got any meaningful matches for nearly a year, but who knows.
