Very true. However, you can't enter the as a Sergeant (Navy did/do have a fast track scheme) and would have to put up with 8 years or so of bullcrap before you get there. You certainly don't have to work to get there, just stay in for long enough. I would imagine it's similiar in the police as well.

    Re: join the police?

i've been thinking a lot at school..
and i think i'm gonna go for the fireman option!
obviously i'll probably change my mind by the end of sixth form, but for now.. it's a good thing to aim for, good pay, get fit, good sick pay (apparently), and pull countless birds

i see a couple of people have put you need to be hard working and very physically able for the job.. not wanting to brag or anything but i do indoor rock climbing at the highest level at school and i run 100m and 200m for the county (cumbria ) and i was predicted Bs at the highest in my exams and i've got 2 A*s in my mock exams..

    Re: join the police?

When thinking of the police option you would have to consider that white males don't get picked
If your not a minority group or female you've got no chance

Thank you, knowing I've brightened someone's day has made me feel better too, work put me in a terrible mood (did an hour unpaid overtime searching for a £90 mistake, and they wanted me to do a 7-day week too)

The thing about white males is that it's both sexist and racist against them. By pledging to make a workforce more black/ethnic and/or female, you're leaving out the white males.
One of my friends from college always used to moan about this (although, with him wearing Hello Kitty around, I had an inkling he might've been gay...). He always said ethnic, age and female complaints were fine, but start a white, 18-65yo male complaint, you'd be stopped with all haste my the PC Brigade. What a country we live in
