    Re: Power Adapter

I think I'll buy this, cut off the end which goes into the pic, strip it back and attach it inside the extension, my dad seems to think it'll work. Only thing is if it's thick/insulated enough, I suppose.

If you've got the extension lead already, open it up to see if that works, either that or do as I suggested and add a IEC plug on the end of the extension leads cord, and plug that straight in.

Actually UK and Euro voltages are now officially the same - 230V
Also phase colours have changed - Red Yellow and Blue have become Brown Grey and Black. Blue is now the neutral, same as we've had in appliance flex wiring for years.

    Re: Power Adapter

Just to bring this back up, I got this today and I'm wondering if it will work or not without actually trying it out (I don't want to cut it up if I can already tell it won't work).

On the back of the 4 way adapter it says:

    13A 240V AC

This appliance must be connected to a suitable supply via a 13A BS1363 plug fitted with 1.25 or 1.5mm 3 core cable to BS6500
The plug I bought, in the link says it's 16A, 250V~. Does the message on the adapter mean nothing less than 13A, 240V but more is OK, or will this plug definitely not work since it's more powerful (I could be talking rubbish here, as I say I don't have a clue about electronics).

My dad seems to think it's worth a try, the only thing that could happen is the wire over heating. What if the EU cable isn't 3 core or 1.25/1.5mm and I try anyway, will it ruin my equipment? I'll only be plugging in my computer/monitor/speakers/mouse, so it's not going to be transferring much power through the cable anyway.

    Cheers again for any help.

    Re: Power Adapter

you will be fine, if its 16a then the cable wont get warm under 13a full load

tbh i doubt you will need more than a 5amp fuse to run your rig with anyway, i got all my kit running into a 13a plug via my ups and the load is fine according to my UPS

(those 3pin pc cables cant take more than 10a anyway)

    Re: Power Adapter

but a UPS, then use a continently style kettle lead, what i do

but the easyest way, buy any plugbar extension jobbie, cut the threepin plug off, strip the outher insulation, and attach to a german 2 pin plug (available from any DIY place). Problem is when we lived in germany we weren't allowed to change a plug without having an electrition verify it. stupid i know, but that might of been the germans rather than the MOD
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

    Re: Power Adapter

Just use the adapters - you won't have any problems at all..

When I moved over I took a load of UK electronic items with me, and ran them for a full 12 months using plug converters...never had a single problem.

I also now have a bunch of devices with swiss plugs (my NDS and an external HD) which I've been running for over 12 months using a EU->UK adapter, again no problems.

So don't worry about it, the warnings are just there to cover themselves, there won't be a problem.
