DPC Guarantee advice - selling a house

The issue is: I bought a house 4 years ago; it came with a Damp Proof Course (DPC) guarantee. When we moved in we called them and asked if we needed to change the name over or anything, to which they replied we didn’t: the house was covered, not the person.

We are now selling the house and the buyers’ survey found damp, our solicitor contacted the DPC company regarding this, and they said they’d have to get the details of the guarantee changed to those of the buyers. BUUUUTTTTT given that it isn’t in our name we can’t change it, rendering the guarantee useless.

Can someone with a brain for these things help us out?!

Yeah I do - the wierd thing is they're not on the guarantee (they must have got the same advice from the company as us when they moved in).. the name on the certificate is either the guy before them or even the guy before him
