Has anybody else seen this story: BBC NEWS | England | Lancashire | Boy convicted of Goth park murder ?

It's the first I'd heard of it and having just read the article, this one actually made me cry.

It's such a shame that this is still the world in which we live in. Being Indian, I was familiar with forms of racism when I was young and it's truly upsetting to know that people are still ridiculed, and in this case killed, for being different.

My heart goes out to Sophie's family, she was only 20 years old.

Being very tall for my age on all the sports teams at school I took great pleasure kicking the living **** out of bullies at school and especially racists.. *spits* .. My girlfriend is indian (well sort of). Obviously I don't really want to get into fights but I wasn't going to stand for it even at that age.

Later on in school I was part of the grunge/goth scene if thats what you want to call it and again.. took great pleasure standing people down for this type of rubbish. I'd have hated to be a pacifist in the same situation though.

i wouldn't confuse it with racisim. Its just the classic bullying.

I dont know why (is it instinct, or leanered behavior) but you can see this in kids who are 4 and 5, they form groups, if you apply an almost game thoerist view, it makes sense that if there are 10 kids, ganging up on one will ensure that the rest of you all take the piss out of jsut that one. And an easy way to make sure that ain't you, is to through the punch. Ok this is simplified grosly but i swear the same principle carry on for people.

As things like the stanford experiments show people are more than able to become monsters if they have an excuse to do so (i was only following orders etc.) in this case they would say that the way the kids dressed was enough for them to disasociate themselfs from them.

What i'm tryign to say is its not racist at all, and its got really nothign to do with that (well mabye xenophobia), and drawing a parralell i think is missing the point, essientally these kids where killed for their fassion sense. It seams that was enough to make this kid kill them.

So its not really worth crying over, as really fascinating things like the stanford experiments driven by curisosity after the hollocast trails showed, most people are capable of doing horrible things, if they can simply justify it. I guess some people just find it easyer than others.

I myself was part of the mosher/ goth scene, whatever you want to call it, there were too many occasions where likes scrotum's like those mentioned in the article tried causing trouble and fights, usually I walked away, if i was on my own or with a group of mates, we ignored it.

The only time I turned round and belted one of them was when he went for my girl friend, he went to grab her so I followed through with my full 15 stone of weight and knocked him on his ass.

I dont like fighting, nor do I condone it, one thing I wont stand for is bullying.

At my local rock pub in Preston, a friend of the victim has set up a petition to have this type of attack placed under "Hate Crimes" cause that is what it boils down to. Like people that get picked on for their beliefs, their colour of skin and now the way we dress.

And agree, that the "chav" culture seems to me very dangerous. Being part of the goth/rock/mosher (fill in blanks) I don't tend to dress to the "norm" when Im not working, and have in the past had verbal abuse.

But saying that, best sight I've ever seen was just after a Slipknot gig at Manchester MEN and was outside Victoria train station with my mates waiting for our lift. A group of "chavs/townies" came round the corner and saw us, hurled abuse very loudy and procedded to run into the train station in case we went after them (which we didnt), but to their surprise, waiting on the platforms were approx a few hundred moshers from the same gig waiting for the train who had heard what they just shouted. I've never seen a group of lads run so fast as they did leaving the station.

That fact that the kid and his mum were laughing and joking when he went for his interview....It just sickens me the kind of parents there are in this world. What kind of a parent would joke with their child when they're being interviewed by the police over murder!? Its like they don't care!

That's horrible. What a complete waste of life, worst still a waste of two young promising lifes while the morons who did it will still be around to lower soceity some more.
