    Re: Jay-Z at Glastonbury

Hip Hop has often gone down very well at Glastonbury, particularly i remember Jurassic 5, Del-La-Soul and The Beastie Boy's going down a storm.

But Jay-Z's style of HipHop just really goes against the grain of the glasto spirit, it's not what Glasto's about. On a smaller stage or earlier on, but not headlining. Anyone who thinks it's a good idea has clearly never been to Glastonbury.

At least the effect it has had on ticket sales means people actually stand a chance of getting some. And it's three nights remember, it's a very bad choice of headline actbut not the end of the world, still be a great weekend.

Ah thats shame Rave, soooo much pretentious crap goes on at Glastonbury that you would have fitted in a treat.

Dunno about everyone else, but I'll not be going this year. It's nothing to do with Jay-Z performing (though I'm certainly not a fan) but more to do with the messing around involved in trying to get tickets the last few years - I just cannot be chuffed with it all.

As for the whole "not in the spirit of things" - what? Go see Rolf Harris (he must be playing, he always is and the man is a God), Massive Attack, Bodger and Badger, sit and have a chill out session in a quiet field, get a tattoo, experiment with food, discover a band you'd never heard of etc etc etc. It's the kind of thing you expect to read about in The Grauniad but Glastonbury is about the full experience, music just being a part of it.

I don't like Coldplay, but that didn't stop me going when they were on.

EDIT - ok, just looked at the actual lineup and while there are certainly some acts that I don't rate there's also a lot of ace stuff. The Sunday in particular is pretty cool.

    Re: Jay-Z at Glastonbury

Part of the problem I think is in the side-effects of sticking Jay-Z in the headlining spot. As just one of the acts it probably wouldn't have much effect, but being the headline act I can see a lot of seasoned Glasto fans not wanting to go because of the people who will want to go and who they will end up camping amongst.

Jay-Z + Glastonbury don't mix... It's not worth a £150 ticket to go to a festival where he's headlining because the whole atmosphere of the festival will be changed.

reading is historically a punk festival, with a long, proud history of getting acts offstage with bottles of piss.

I was at leeds the year That daphne and celleste got bottled it was funny.

Sliptknot was worrying that year. Theres something deeply disturbing about a 12 yr kid wearing a Boilersuit and gast mask and just jumping up then kicking and punching in every direction

I think it was a bold thing to do, pushing the boundry. But I don't think it'll work.

Saw Anthrax & Public Enemy play a double header at Brixton years ago & that worked well.
