Mp3 splitter/cutter

There are a few songs i want to cut up to use as ringtones, but i cant find any good free software to do it. All i want to do is cut the first few seconds off songs so the ringtone is just the lyrics/beat of the song, as opposed to the intro.

Does anyone know of any good software around that would do it?

i do the easy way, using to what was at hand (dialup days... couldnt download things...)

convert to .WAV then use the sound recorder to cut the file down.. and then save as a .mp3

I also use audacity for a bit of MP3 fiddling, it's a bit more feature laden than you really need but you can't fault the price.

My vote goes to MP3DirectCut - on the fly direct editing, no re-encoding so it's nice and quick. I've used this a LOT for editing vinyl recordings taken on my iRiver H340, to split the single MP3 track from one side of vinyl into each separate track. Works very well.
