I saw your thred on your new lovely guitar purchase, Im lookin at buyin a new decent beginner guitar in the price range of around 250 quid ( I already have a Gibson Epiphone summat? ) but its a bit fooked, the strings are way too high from the fretboard due to bad repair. Anyway any suggestions as what to get with a close fretboard action and where to purchase from online.

Best bet really is to go too a good guitar shop and try some guitars in that price range and then make a decision.

Personally though for that kinda price i'd look at a Squier standard strat or telecaster, i've got a squire strat and its a nice simple pick up and play thing, the action's not as low as my beast but it didn't cost as much either

I've heard good things about the ibanez and Cort's lower end guitars aswell so they may be worth a look.

I'm a member of the forums over here, they're slightly more expensive but they do a full proffesional set up before they ship and apparently have very good quality control.

my wife got me a squire strat for xmas and as knox says its a nice pick up and play guitar the action is high but you can lower it easily on the bridge my wife got the guitar from argos i think and it was only £199.99 with a free fender 15 watt amp, lead ,strap ,plec ,video ,cds ,mag lol it was a good deal the amp is decent as well just the built in distortion is a bit naff but its pretty loud for 15 watt

Just been readin reviews on the Ibanez SA160QM £300, Ive just upped the ante as I think I'm gonna go for this beast. Yeah you might say £300 is a lot to spend on a noob product but ive been playin for a bit now and I think that spendin that bit more will keep me interested if you know what I mean. I would tend to agree with this, to a large extent its the player, not the axe.
Little point in getting an Ebanez until you can play your major and minor scales, plus I know guys who can make an Argos guitar sound like a Studio Les Paul

Also the quality of a modern budget/starter guitar is incredible, (granted an expert can tell you the difference) one of these babies will keep an aspiring Guitarist happy for many many years.

So what kind of stuff do you guys jam then?

I used to jam fairly fast 12 bar blues or Rock. We did used to play a lot of AC/DC stuff mainly down to it being fairly simple to play and based in A-minor which was my favorite soloing scale

great guitars imho, i've had mine since i started playing guitar. Mine cost £200 back in the day, they're damn cheap now.

I need to learn a lot of theory yet though, i'm learning all the scales at the mo' it's quite handy but i know a lot of them off by ear.
