Maybe there was no quench or whatever it's called. Maybe the collider tests were run and naff all happened. During the worst financial crisis for 60 years, it isn't a good time to break the news that the £bn collider is a damp squib.

Hawkins pay up!
I saw you put the beer bottles in there!
Could it be a little early in our evolution to comprehend such information? Such knowledge brings power. Look what happened when Mr Oppenheimer went wow, would you look at that! In the name of Science!
As far as being hacked and the machine breaking down, "it seems fate is not without a sense of Irony" [The Matrix]
Fraz I envy you! These are exciting times. And look forward to the updates as an when they occur, Thanks
Higgs.....out!
Hmmm... not looking good for the LHC from what I've been hearing recently. In fact, I think there will be another press release sometime soon. Essentially, the tunnel being flooded with helium has prevented people from easily finding out the damage until quite recently. And it looks like the helium leak did a LOT of damage - lights/cameras/other services were all ripped off the walls/ceiling by the pressure wave for +/- ~100 meters around the centre of the leak.
And apparently the pressure relief valves on the cryostats couldn't release the pressure fast enough, so there maybe internal damage to accelerator magnets. They are talking about bringing magnets up to the surface for repair, which isn't a good sign.
So... the word on the street is that the LHC might not be back up and running until June 2009.
No black hole = failed experiment ?
I bet they have found a 'stargate effect' and are currently exploring other worlds.
Maybe all these military helicopters that keep on passing over my house are headed there and there's an alien invasion which they're trying to keep quiet!
Although these helicopters are loud... I'm having to turn up my speakers to drown out the noise!
The funny thing is that this was a hugely expensive experiment. The scenarios will have been rehearsed and calculated to the nth degree. That some of the magnets might get hot is something a dummy like me might have anticipated. So, the assembled boffins put into action the sophisticated, back up plan in the event of a quench.
They call the fire brigade.
Presumably they turned up ready to dowse the whole shebang in water or sand or CO2 or something as they will have been expecting a huge helium seepage as soon as their fave daytime TV soap came on.
The real heroes are Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub. The LHC should be renamed 'Trumpton' in their honour .
We are all good at something! though we can not be good at everything!
Higgs....out!

Finally some photos of the LHC damage have been released.
First photo shows one of the big dipole magnets knocked off its red-coloured mount.
Second photo shows the interconnections between two magnets have been crushed to about 1/2 the distance they are supposed to have between them:

Similar damage has affected 29 of the superconducting magnets in total, and a further 57 magnets will have to be removed from below ground for more minor repairs.

That looks expensive.

<bad car mechanic>
Oooh, that's gonna cost ya I'm afraid...
See, your reverse dipole is skewed and the inverse electron sequencer needs re-calibrating..
