Smoke alarms that work with house alarm system

im about to buy a new alarm system for our new house, the one im getting comes with zones that can be set as fire alarm zones, it also features a dialer so will ring my mobile and let me know wtf is going off..

im after a smoke alarm thats hard wired (ie mains) and also plumbs into the house alarm.

most standard smoke detectors have a single wire to daisy chain them together, these are not suitable im afraid as it has to be compatable with an alarm system,

anyone have any info on these at a decent price ?

£30 im being quoted by the alarm company.

Re: Smoke alarms that work with house alarm system

It depends entirely on the alarm system!

Some are so simple as to want a normally closed, alarm when open loop. If this is the case a simple circuit to convert the output of the smoke detector is possible (as most simply apply the 9V battery too the daisy chain loop, all you need is a relay!).

But plenty more now go for a bespoke protocol, given that you or I can buy a microprocessor capable of doing this for 70p, the added security and obviously it traps you to their brand, i can really see why they do this, i would if i was in their posistion!

thats where you and I differ, if trusting my life, i like things i've given the once over

Then £30 is probably fair price.

    http://www.gx-security.co.uk/smoke-d...or-p-1509.html

It really depends also on the type of sensor, remeber optical sensors are normally recomended in halls/staircases, and alpha in bedrooms/living rooms etc. I think...... There is a difference for the useages, and if i recall that was it. (with heat for kitchen rooms!).

Either way your not really been ripped off!

Re: Smoke alarms that work with house alarm system

i spotted a couple of PE ones on ebay with relay switching for house alarm hook ups, i think im going to bung those top and bottom of stairs, and hook em to the alarm (as there 12v) . then add a heat mains one in the kitchen and a couple or radioactive buggers linked to the kitchen one with built in screamers also on the mains to make 2 standalone, 1 being in the pc room for obvious reasons and the other in the front room or bedroom.

should do the job i recon

may as well add mains ones as im rewiring so can put a seperate loop in for those.

Out of interest Gonzo - and not wanting to hijack this - which brand of house alarm are you getting? I'm about to install one and don't know the first thing about it.

i wouldn't consider it a hijack as its relevant to the thread

    http://www.responseelectronics.com/s...rms-pr-85.html

I'm buying that one as its priced well considering it comes with a dialler, they also do wireless if you want to be buying lots of batteries

having shopped about that seems to be a good deal considering the prices on fleabay !

    heres there homepage http://www.responseelectronics.com/store/home.php
