    Lightbulb What's that buzzing?

    Those of you with the HEXUS.hardlines sidebar turned on may have noticed by now the appearance of a "Buzz up" link for each item.

    This is Yahoo's new social news aggregator, Buzz, which has just come out of closed beta, so we're giving it a go.

    But there's no point in us trying it if our readers don't use it too, so here's my personal request to you all:

    If you see something that interests you in the sidebar, or on the main site as you're browsing, give it a Buzz.

    By sharing our content you're helping us get more people to read our stuff, and the more people read our stuff, the happier we are... which means we can make you happier.

    By my reckoning, enough of you use the sidebar that if you started Buzzing the stuff you found interesting it'd make a real difference, and if even more of you start using it then we're rocking and rolling.

    It's just a trial right now, so let's all give it a go and see what happens.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: What's that buzzing?

    Would love to but when you actually click on the buzz link all you get from yahoo is the message (This is the case for all of the yahoo buzz links I have tried off the sidebar.

    "Thanks for visiting Yahoo! Buzz™

    For some reason, that story doesn't seem to be in our system. We're already on the case, trying to figure out what went wrong.

    In the meantime, check out some of the web's most remarkable content on Yahoo! Buzz"

    EDIT:

    Seems hit and miss as on the third attempt of trying it takes you to the submit story page.

    Very interesting. What browser are you using, sir, so that I might test against it.

    I'm having no such issue in FF3/IE7.

    No we're just trying something new. Articles still have the addThis "share" box at the top of each page, which includes Digg, Slashdot, Facebook etc.

    But right now, we're focusing on Buzz.

    FF 3.0.1 here too, works fine when I'm logged into Buzz and when I'm not.

    How odd!

    Hopefully we can blame Yahoo and not me!

    Re: What's that buzzing?

    Yeah, plasters my IE7 with those too, and my Firebug console.

    It's something wrong with their server, and I've reported it.

    I'm hoping it'll be fixed shortly otherwise it'll annoy the hell out of the likes of me and you.

    Re: What's that buzzing?

    Well, good news is they've fixed the server that serves up the javascript - so no more error!

    However, the 'standard' non-javascript URLs still aren't recognised by their system, so Firefox middle-click for example, won't work.

    Also, I've worked out what the rendering error in Opera is. It places the 'b' button in Opera in a weird way such that scrolling before all the buzz code is loaded will result is mis-placement.

    Still, keep on Buzzing guys, we need your support

    Re: What's that buzzing?

    the problem i have with 'buzz' is that you need a yahoo email address (and i've got enough as it is).. and who actually uses yahoo nowadays anyway?

    oh.. that and the fact pages take a little longer to render (for me).. but, hey ho.
