I would not consider it racist, no. Given the history of the people, the struggle, civil rights, etc, you couldn't really consider a vote for Obama by a black voter because Obama is black to be a racist act.

Also it's not just about Obama, black Americans tend to vote Democrat, as you know, regardless of the color of the candidate. Therefore a black Democratic candidate is likely to poll very well with black voters.

Regardless, Obama will get overwhelming support from black Americans, IMO.

Well, it is covered in many sources. Perhaps people just mean 'non-white', or black is seen as the dominant colour *Shrug*. Another point about 'racism' suggested about the topic though, is that how many voters within the black community would vote for Obama simply because his skin colour.

There are a good many white voters who will vote against Obama because they don't want a black president though Probably quite a few more than the number of votes he has won by default for being black.

I really hope Obama wins this but it pays not to get complacent, judging by what has happened in the past.

Well, it seems to me that if someone votes for, or doesn't vote for, a particular candidate on the basis of skin colour, then it's racist. It might have sound historical reasons, but it's racist.

After all, vote for or not for both Obama and McCain on the basis of their policies, what they stand for, what you think they'll do or the party they represent. But not because of their skin colour.

I have posted about how the default black votes Obama has landed are more than likely cancelled out by the hick states casting their OMG anyone but a black man vote. You can perhaps argue that Barrack has recieved more votes by default than McCain (highly unlikely imo).

If a large minority of people casted their vote based purely upon the race of the candidate in question, then yes, the Guardian would be having a fit.

Well, I think it is going to happen regardless. This is the first chance an African American has had to get into the White House, and so, racist or not, African Americans will vote for Obama.

Perhaps the difference between race loyalty, or racial pride, and simply being racist comes into play.

There is a significantly higher voter turn out this time around.
