Ok in my favourite forum (sorry its not this one, but I will resist the temptation to pimp it), I asked for suggestions about online free sms places, someone suggested breathe.com
So I pop across and sign up (you have to give postal address phone number and password dob etc), then it just says you are done
Now some of you may have spotted the glaring mistake in their logic, they dont actually ask you to confirm that you have that mobile number.
Wait it gets better, I sent one to my own phone to test it, during the sending it says what would you like to do a) say its from breathe.com b) say its from 07xxxxxxxxxxx (the number you signed up with) or c) have replies sent to my breathe inbox.
So I send it off and get it straight away WITH NO ADVERTS my phone actually displays that the text message came from <my phone> which is what my number is under in the address book.
Now the cunning of you may have spotted the potential for this oversight, if you wanted and you were a little unscrupulous (sp?) you could make it appear as if you were texting from someone elses phone
Might have some fun with this tonight.
Legal waver- This might be counted as fraud or somert so dont blame me
