New (Only) Rolex Boutique in Sofia, Bulgaria

    Hi all,

I thought some of you might be interested to see these shots that a friend of mine took, as he was invited to the opening of the new boutique. The décor and design is quite 'typically' Rolex, but is nicer than the boutique on Bond Street although it looks a tad smaller. The padded cushions in the window display is a new addition that I have not seen before though.

Very high res shots are available here.

Your pictures aren't showing for me, never been in a rolex boutique before so quite interested to see what one is like.

EDIT: Your site is blocked by my work filter so I can't see the pictures. Have to wait till I get home

Another place where those with more money than sense can go waste their money.

Re: New Rolex Boutique in Sofia, Bulgaria

It's not a waste if it's what you want to spend your money on, though.

Some people spend hundreds on tickets to pop concerts. I sure wouldn't.

Some spend thousands on holidays. Once your two or three weeks are over, all you have are memories. At least with a nice watch, you have a nice watch for years .... and one that'll still be worth a good chunk of what you paid for it and, who knows, may end up worth more than you paid for it. Demand is a funny animal.

Some people spend a fortune on PCs with willy-waving specs. Fine, if it's what they want to spend their money on, but personally, I'd rather have the Rolex than a cutting edge PC ..... and I don't want a Rolex.

We all have a discretionary spend, and spend it on things that rock our boats. I've spent more on camera gear than most people would, and on books, CDs, etc. To me, both the camera gear and books etc were value for money, but I'm sure some people would think it's a waste of money. Not to me it wasn't, and it was, after all, my money.

A Rolex isn't what I'd spend £1000+ (and maybe plus a LOT) .... but some people do, and if it's what they like, it ain't a waste to them.

Anyone actually been to Bulgaria? Judging from what I've seen of the place and how short of money most of its populace is, I don't think they are gonna get many customers.

small minded comment considering most rolex are an investment, take the guy that brought mikes to stick in a vault for his son, it will be worth a hell of a lot more than a new one by the time his balls drop !

    1 day i shall own one. ( i hope)

I would say there is a large gulf between those that have money and those that don't. Just the same as any other under developed country, if you have money you are incredibly rich if you don't, you have nothing.

It has some nice places to ski, but outside the ski resort town and airport it did look a bit bleak.

Bingo, its the spread between the rich and the poor that is so large in most of these countires. People where naysaying exactly the same way against Moscow not so long ago.

Yes and no; it was actually a fully serviced (@ Omega Bienne) Omega Speedmaster ('83) with a hesalite crystal ~ I do not think that Speedmasters would appreciate as much as a Rolex would...but it is a great watch nevertheless and his kid would be mighty pleased to have that as a gift in say 20 years.

As for 'gangsters' ~ you have a point. I can see many of the ruby crusted Rolexes flying off the shelves, including the Rolex 'ICE' which is estimated at circa €600k...

    It's a shame they killed it's functionality ("oh, it's um....GMT+ 3 diamonds at the moment" )

I can finally see the pictures. Looks like quite a place! Some of the pictures look like they could come straight from the website! Might have to swing by the store on Bond Street next time i'm in London.

Been to Bansko too... thought it was pretty bleak also.

And the Bansko slopes that get lit up for night skiing you can see from Sofia - it's just one big capitalist slap in the face for the majority of poor people living there. Pretty disgusting IMO, especially as I was effectively part of it. And prices in Bansko seem to exceed Chamonix, which is pretty surprising considering how average the resort is. I certainly won't be go back.

Actually it wasn't Bansko I went to, it was Pamporovo, the one that's on a mountain some 6 hours coach drive from Sofia, but it was pretty much the same as you say it is. Once off the motorway the drive up the mountain took us through quite a few small towns that looked nothing like anything in the resort town.

In regard to the extra shiny watch, I don't so much like it as I am struck by awe at the fact that they managed to stick so many diamonds to it perfectly...

countries where there are a lot of poor people will house some rich ones too, typically in the order of 90% poor 10% rich just look at US of A

    bulgaria should be no different

and rolex would have done their market survey before spending money on that shop
