Deck the halls with lines of presents...

So with Christmas rapidly approaching - a fact I'm all too much aware of... being a musician means that you're needed around christmas... lots and lots of money in it - I'm beginning to wonder about who to buy presents.

If I'm feeling particulary rich this saturday when I go and do all my shopping (my only free day between now and christmas) then some of my close friends will get a decent pressie. My family will all get something, and if I discover that the £150 or so that my dad owes me hsa magically been transported into my account by then, then I might even buy some stuff for some school mates. Or like.. a bag of chocolate bars to be shared amongst my form/class/whatever you want to call it.

So who do you buy presents for? Do you even celebrate Christmas? Vote and Post

Just family here. I'd rather just give a bit of money to them though, I hate actually getting presents since I never have any idea what people want

Really it's just family and girlfriend, maybe one or two small presents for a few friends.

I rely on the wife to sort our presents for family now, I just pay for most of them. I really only have one close friend out outside of the family circle, and thankfully we don't do presents for each other.

Re: Deck the halls with lines of presents...

Not got much in the way of family to buy for (or friends ) so it's not much trouble to sort those, then I do buy and/or send in post something for a fair few outer-circle-of-acquaintance people like neighbours & distant friends of family (mainly because I know they appreciate it & would be disappointed not to hear from me).

Don't mind doing the odd bit of shopping esp. as do a fair % of it online... just so long as I don't have to go near anything purporting to be a 'gift set' (ie anything involving boxed-up 'xmas' de-icers window-scrapers key-rings hankies & perfume), that stuff gives me the yips.

Re: Deck the halls with lines of presents...

I'll buy presents for Family and a select few friends. But to be honest I don't really like Christmas anymore, its lost all its appeal since i've got older. Now I just see the commercial side of it all.

In my opinion people should be seeing friends and family all year round as it is, so why should Christmas be any different?

Re: Deck the halls with lines of presents...

I selected No, but not because I can't afford it. I view Christmas mainly for kids, and as there are no children in my immediate family, we just don't bother any more. We're all adults (my 23 old bratty sister being the exception ) now, so anything we want, we buy ourselves (expect my lazy jobless sister!). After several years of being asked, and asking what people want, and geting "Nothing Really", we've given up. Means no stress or expectations now, which makes it more relaxed and enjoyable.

Re: Deck the halls with lines of presents...

I pretty much agree with Gerrard. I don't do Christmas presents.

No young kids about, so it's not for them.

As a religious event, the crass commercialisation just cheapens the event and is nothing more than exploitative cashing in by sellers, and often involves stuff I don't need, certainly don't want, and and often as not, don't even like. In the past, too often, things have ended up in the bin, donated to charity shops or sitting untouched in a cupboard for years before being binned or donated.

    Besides, I'm not religious.

I don't do presents at Christmas. Don't buy them, and most certainly don't want any. It took a while to convince everybody, but except for the mother-in-law who's such a sweet old dear that I won't offend her by outright refusing to accept (which I would from anyone else, and had to once or twice before people starting believing me when I said I really, really didn't want anything), everybody's now got the message - don't expect anything and don't get me anything.
