    Thumbs down AS Maths

Anybody else at college studying AS Level Maths?

We did a mock Methods1 exam the other day - I got the highest score in the class!

But wait... it was still a fail - 22/60, 2 marks off an E, lol.

Coming from somebody who's expecting a B or A I'm a little unsure of the situation now! :S

Still, there's time to sort it out - the more practice the better.

they always make mock exams more difficult than what the real exam is going to be like, it's to make you work harder

I did AS maths last year but am having to retake it this year when I also do my A-levels. I didn't do method maths though. We do Pure Maths 1, 2 and 3, Mechanics 1 and 2 and Satistics 1. I find maths easier this year (A-level) than the AS stuff last year, so don't fret!!!

hmmm... well last year all my tests in class i was getting like about 10%... (despite getting an a* at gcse)... a couple of weeks before the exam, it all kinda clicked and i managed to scrape an A (by 1 point, ie 241)

just stick with it, and be scared of A2!

indeed results day for winter modules on thursday :s
it would be nice if a-level maths was more than 'how to perform intergration and differentiation on everything'. at least M2 is semi-enjoyable.

Back in 1999 I did the T1 (stats) and P1 (Pure) moduels and got two E's. I got A's the second time around.

Everything seemed a crap load easier after T2 and P2 so I wouldnt worry

Ive did part of an AS maths course. After a few months 3/4 of the class were kicked out. Afaik all the people that were left got really bad grades and it was a waste for them. I was one of the 3/4 btw. After AS i didnt bother with A2 and went to a different collage and done an engineering course which had different, but a lot harder maths, which I found a lot easyer, just shows how crap some teachers can be. The AS teacher was definatly the cause of everyone doing bad.

ok, so lasty year i did AS maths, and i failed the mocks i got EUU in d1, p1 and s1 respectivly

anyway, somehow (god knows how) 1 month later, and with no revision as i was at the point thinking im goin to fail, might as well do it in style, and i came out with BBC

A2 is a lot harder but even so mocks are made harder, we did the same as you, the year befores paper, and ok its the same paper but its harder, they say 40% is an E, 50...d, etc but really they scale it up, as maths is hard, maybe its 30% for a E, 40% for a D etc...and so on, so you dont need as much thus harder

ok for some strange reason, before all 4 maths exams ive had, the day before - and sometimes as i sit the exam - it just comes to me, normally i dont get half of it, but for some strange reason on or just before the exam day, even if i havnt revised maths just comes to me, i can do it and i dont know how, call it luck

anyway best of luck, im sure you can do it, stick with you and you should be pleasently suprised

as for pure 2 maths, results on thursday, ill be in the pub either way

A level maths is much harder than any other A level, its a case of working hard and getting your head around whats going on. First time round I got unclassified for AS but through working hard and resits I managed to get an A for the overall A level. Just keep at it, do loads of practice past exams and questions. The ones you're getting wrong try to go over the work again, if you still don't understand it ask a teacher.
